OnePlus to develop the first 5G smartphoneThe next OnePlus device might very well be the first 5GB smartphone ever. Talking at Mobile World Congress in Shanghai, OnePlus chief Pete Lau said that the company is exploring its partnership with Qualcomm to develop one of the first 5G phones. The launch of the next OnePlus flagship, which is likely to be called OnePlus 7, will be in sync with the first yeatr of 5G in the US. OnePlus is also looking into carrier deals in the United States to expand its reach in one of the most important markets in the world.Redmi 6 Pro launched in ChinaXiaomi added the Redmi 6 Pro to its new generation of Redmi smartphones. The device was launched in China earlier this week. The redmi 6 Pro comes with the trusted Snapdragon 625, coupled with 3GB or 4GB of RAM. The three variants of the device get either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, depending on their memory configuration. At the front is a 5.8-inch FullHD+ screen with a display cutout at top, the first in Redmi devices. At the back is the familiar Redmi design language with a dual camera setup featuring 12MP and 5MP sensors.Xiaomi sells a million units of Mi 8 series, Mi Band 3It was a week of milestones for Xiaomi. The Chinese tech giant sold a million units of its recently launched Mi 8 series in a span of 18 days. A million units of the Mi Band 3, which was launched alongside the Mi 8 series were sold in only 17 days. These sales figures pertain to the Chinese markets alone as the devices are yet to be launched in global markets.Apple starts assembling iPhone 6s in IndiaApple has reportedly started assembling iPhone 6s in India. The tech giant has collabrorated with its Taiwan-based manufacturer for this. The Taiwanese compnay has set up a production line for iPhone 6s in its Bengaluru facility. However, Apple is producing limited quantities of iPhone 6s in India, and will have to scale its operations if Indians are to get any price benefits.Apple-Samsung seven-year-long legal war comes to an endApple and Samsung buried the hatchet in a seven-year-long legal battle over patent infringement. However, both companies withheld the compensation amount that has been paid to Apple in this matter. Apple sued Samsung for the first time in 2011 over charges of copying design and utility patents of iPhone.Instagram brings own video call featureAfter introducing its TV feature last week, Instagram rolled out its own video call feature this week. The video call is available to all Instgram users, and they will only  have to update their apps to the latest verison. The video call option in available under the chat section of Instagram.WhatsApp Payments delayed due to lack of communicationThe launch of WhatsApp Payments has been delayed due to lack of communication betweenn the agencies. Reports suggest that the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has failed to answer critcial questions about the UPI-based payments services asked by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. WhatsApp Payments has been in Beta since February and is being tested by one million users.

Samsung Galaxy J8 to go on sale in India on June 28The Samsung Galaxy J8 will go on sale in India on June 28. Samsung launched the Galaxy J8 in India last month and the company had announced the device would be available on June 20th. However, it did not go on sale on the date and will now be available in the market in three days time.Samsung India took to Twitter to confirm the arrival of the device in India. The Tweet said, \"Give the 'Infinity Touch' to your picture's background with the #BackgroundBlurShape of the new 16+5MP #DualRearCamera on #GalaxyJ8. Only 3 days to go for the big launch. Stay tuned.\"Moto Z3 Play expected to launch in India by first week of JulyMotorola announced the launch of the Moto Z3 Play smartphone at an event in Brazil, earlier this month. During the event, Motorola promised a 128GB variant of the device with 6GB RAM. The company has finally launched the third variant in Brazil. The device is available in Brazil at a price of R$ 2,699 (approximately Rs 48,550).As far as the device's availability in India is concerned, Motorola has not confirmed a date. However, sources say that the phone could be launched in India by first week of July. According to a report by 91mobiles, the Moto Z3 Play will launch in India next month.Apple iOS 12 Public Beta is now available for iOS devicesAnnounced earlier this month at WWDC 2018 in San Jose, Apple has finally released the Public Beta version of the iOS 12 for all. The idea of the pre-release or beta software is to let users familiarise themselves with the new software and at the same time help report bugs before the final software release. Unlike the final version of the software, pre-release software is mostly stable but might have bugs, a few features might not work properly and you might even end up messing your iPhone. But reports suggest the iOS 12 Public Beta is much stable than the previous generation beta version of the iOS software. However, it is still recommended to download the beta profile on a spare iOS device and not your primary iPhone or iPad.Apple starts manufacturing iPhone 6s in IndiaLast year, Apple started the production of the iPhone SE in India, making it the first 'Made-in-India' smartphone. Now the company is all set to add another iPhone to the list. According to a report by The Economic Times, the company has started assembling iPhone 6s in India. The device is being commercially manufactured, which essentially means that if you go and buy an iPhone 6s, there are high chances that it will have the \"Made in India\" badge on it.Apple is building the new phone in collaboration with their Taiwan-based manufacturer, Wistron. The Taiwanese company has setup an assembly line for the new device at the Bengaluru facility. The new phone will be an upgrade to the current iPhone SE that has been on the production line since May, last year.Xiaomi sells over a million units of Mi 8 series devices in just 18 daysXiaomi sold more than 1 million units of the Mi 8 Series in just 18 days. Currently, the phones are only available in China but are expected to launch in India as well. Xiaomi launched the Mi 8, Mi 8 SE and the premium Mi 8 Explorer Edition last month and all the devices featured a notch-display. The smartphones went on sale in China from June 5. The Mi 8 went on sale in China on June 5 while the smaller Mi 8 SE went on sale on June 8.Donovan Sung, the global spokesperson of the company took to Twitter and said, \"Sharing some amazing news. The Mi 8 series first went on sale on June 5. Just 18 days later, we've already sold over 1M units!\".  It must be noted that out of the three smartphones, the Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE are already available in the market. However, the Explorer Edition is likely to be released in July.

Samsung Galaxy S9+ top selling smartphone, but Apple, Xiaomi dominate listSamsung topped the chart of best selling smartphone globally but Apple still dominates the total list with five entries in the top ten. Counterpoint has released its Market Pulse research and crowned Samsung's Galaxy S9+ with the best selling smartphone in the world title.In the list of top ten, the majority belonged to Apple with all the recent launches in the list. Samsung's Galaxy S9+ and Galaxy S9 got the top two ranks, followed by Apple iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus and Apple iPhone 8. iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 reserved the seventh and ninth position respectively.Aadhaar number no longer mandatory to register for a new mobile numberThe Department of Telecom (DoT) released a circular on Tuesday asking all telecom operators to work on a mechanism that employs Virtual IDs instead of the sensitive biometric data. This step will help UIDAI restrict the massive flow of data to major telecom companies. The companies will now have to use Virtual IDs and Limited KYC, which essentially mask user data and hence avoids blatant sharing of sensitive data.The implementation of this new service launched by UIDAI is due on July 1. Telecom companies are expected to make the necessary changes in their data verification method.Uber launches Uber Lite, a slimmed down version of the ride-hailing appUber, in a quest to be on every mobile device, has come up with a Lite-version of its much popular ride-hailing app. The move is touted to assist travelers in booking a ride even when they are facing bad connectivity. While the full version of the app consumes almost 180 MB space on IOS devices and 40 MB on Android phones, the slimmed down version is expected to be just around 5 MB. The app is first being piloted in Indian markets; and if successful, it might be rolled out to international markets. The minimal version of the app saves space, is compatible with all major carriers, and works on even the most basic mobile devices.
