The price of onion has touched the Rs 100 mark in Pune, Maharashtra among other states.  According to a trader, the rise in price of onion is due to supply crunch from farms which have been affected due to heavy rains. In a notification, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said earlier this week, that export of onions in forms other than cut, sliced or powder had been banned. Heavy rains in August washed out most of the onion crop in Karnataka that was almost ready to hit markets in September, which led to dwindling supply but rising demand.
