Nearly 65,68,852 wait-listed tickets booked on the IRCTC portal automatically got cancelled after failing to get confirmed between April and November 2019

Booking for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas train has already begun. Passengers can get their tickets via IRCTC's website, mobile application or authorised travel portal partners

The commercial run of the train will start on January 19

The court decision comes after Indian Railway Catering and Tourist Corporation (IRCTC) filed a complain with the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Railways and Crime, Delhi in 2017, alleging that RailYatri was provided illegal bookings and meals on trains

The facility, which will begin from April 1, will be beneficial for those passengers who are booked on continuous trains for their onward journeys and get delayed due to fog, protests or any other reason during their trip.

In a bid to enhance its services, the Indian Railways has partnered with MakeMyTrip to provide live status updates of trains through WhatsApp, which is currently the most popular instant messaging platform.

Features like train search without login, easy-to-use web interface, alternative accommodation facility, etc, have been incorporated in the new IRCTC portal, whose final version was launched on June 13.

The idea had come from Railway Minister Piyush Goyal who gave one-year deadline last year to complete the process of inducting the predictive service on the IRCTC website.

IRCTC also said that in case of a train cancellation from the source, the money will be automatically refunded to the user's account through which the payment was made in the app.

The Indian Railways on Friday announced that if your train is fully - from start station to end station - cancelled, your tickets will be cancelled and refunds will be processed automatically.

Passengers can also order food by installing IRCTC Food on Track app.

Passengers can now claim complete refund if a train fails to start within 3 hours of its scheduled time

The minister's statement comes in the backdrop of heavy fog for the third consecutive day in the Delhi-NCR region, owing to which 21 trains have been cancelled and over 59 trains have been delayed
