The 30-share Sensex closed 162 points, or 0.88 per cent, lower at 18,309.37 - a level last seen on September 20.

The 30-share Sensex moved in a narrow range of over 100 points before ending with rise of 54.51 points or 0.29 per cent at 18,817.38 - the highest since the index closed at 18,938.46 on October 5.

In listless trading, the BSE benchmark Sensex on Monday rose just seven points amid investors adopting a cautious stance after recent gains and a weak rupee.

Profit-booking from operators on the back of weak global cues coupled with capital outflows pulled down the BSE benchmark Sensex by 110 points to finish at 18,682.31

With the European markets opening strong, buying activity resurfaced. The 30-share BSE Sensex closed 38.37 points, or 0.21 per cent, higher at 18,713.55.

The 30-share BSE Sensex opened nearly 78 points lower, dragged down by Infosys scrip that tanked nearly 8 per cent on reports that the IT major's July-September quarter revenues and profits failed to beat market expectations.

After a mild round of profit-booking and mixed trading in European stocks, the 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 18,793.36, up 84.38 points or 0.45 per cent.

At 2.05 pm, Sensex was up 162.16 points at 19031.85. Similarly, Nifty was up 54 points at 5785.25 during the same time.

The Sensex on Thursday dropped 147 points, its biggest fall in two weeks, as investors adopted a cautious stance amid political uncertainty and weak global stock market trends.

The 30-share Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex jumped 147.08 points, or 0.82 per cent, to close the day at 18,000.03. The 50-share Nifty closed 41 points, or 0.76 per cent, higher at 5,431.

The 30-share BSE Sensex, which had gained 455 points in the last four trading sessions, opened a tad higher from Monday's level on flat global cues.

The 30-scrip BSE Sensex, which gained almost 437 points in the previous three sessions, closed at 17,766.78 points - up 17.13 points, or 0.10 per cent.

The 30-share BSE Sensex, which jumped to the day's high of 17,509.99, fell back sharply to end with a loss of 45.16 points, or 0.26 per cent, at 17,384.40.

After a lower start, the 30-share BSE Sensex traded in a narrow 100-point range and closed 21.20 points, or 0.12 per cent higher at 17,257.38.

The Sensex ended the day higher at 17,236.18, up by 92.50 points, or 0.54 per cent from its previous close. This is highest closing since July 19. Nifty rose by 29.20 points to 5,229, after dipping to 5,154.05 during the day.

BSE Sensex closed lower on Friday amid weak global markets and worries over the progress of monsoon.

The 30-share BSE Sensex resumed lower at 17,275.20 points and dropped further to 17,142.13. At 1.41 pm, it was trading 78.16 points lower at 17,200.69.

The BSE benchmark index, which had gained a mere 2 points in Tuesday's trade, moved up further by 79.71 points, or 0.47 per cent, to close at 17,185.01.

The 30-scrip Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed at 17,105.30 points, up 1.99 points - or 0.01 per cent - from its previous day close of 17,103.31 points.

BSE Sensex moved lower in Friday's late trade after rising to its day high of 17,342.88, hurt by selling pressure in consumer durable, metal and realty stocks.
