With a lot of uncertainty over the GAAR regulations for FII investments, market players are not taking any chances for the moment. Market participants are waiting for more clarity on the contentious matter from the government.

Fag-end value buying contained intra-day losses Thursday and the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex on Thursday closed lower by 63 points amid this month's settlement in the derivatives segment and a weak trend in global markets.

The 30-scrip index of the Bombay Stock Exchange, closed at 17,257.36 points, up 204.58 points or 1.2 per cent compared to its previous close at 17,052.78 points.

Sensex closed 0.6 per cent lower at 17,361.74 points, down 104.46 points or 0.6 per cent, from its previous weekly close at 17,466.2 points. Nifty also closed in the red at 5,278.2 points, 39.7 points or 0.74 per cent down from its previous weekly close.

Sensex closed on a flat note at 17,466.2 points, down 37.04 points or 0.21 per cent, from its previous weekly close at 17,503.24 points. Nifty also closed lower at 5,317.9 points, 15.65 points or 0.29 per cent down from previous close.

The benchmark resumed lower at 17,598.42 and hovered in a range of 17,691.96 and 17,008.77 before settling the week at 17,503.24 - a net loss of 133.75 points or 0.76 per cent.

The market lost steam led by metal, power and banking stocks after a clean sweep by the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls raised concerns over the ability of Congress-led government at the Centre in pushing through reforms to boost flagging economic growth.

The BSE 30-scrip benchmark Sensex opened lower at 17,598.42 and dropped further to 17,312.30. Eventually, it settled at 17,362.87, down 274.12 points, or 1.55 per cent.

Sensex ends the week at 17,636.80 points, down 1.6 per cent or 286.58 points from its previous week's close at 17,923.57 points. Nifty also shed 1.28 per cent or 69.95 points during the week to close at 5,359.35 points on Friday.

The 30-scrip index of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed at 17,636.8 points, up 52.83 points or 0.3 per cent from its previous close.

The BSE benchmark Sensex on Thursday fell 168 points on profit booking in bluechips on concerns of slow growth and government's share sale in ONGC attracting buyers away from other stocks.

The 30-share Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark, which had lost over 500 points in the previous three sessions, shed 477.82 points to close at 17,445.75.

Sensex ends the week at 17,923.57 points, down two per cent or 365.78 points from its previous week's close at 18,289.35 points. Nifty also registered a loss of almost two per cent this wee.

The Sensex, which had lost 350 points in the last two trading sessions, fell further by 154.93 points, or 0.86 per cent to 17,923.57.

Sensex ends the week at 18,289.35 points, up 3.05 per cent or 540.66 points from its previous week's close at 17,748.69 points. Nifty gains 3.28 per cent or 182.7 points during the week to close at 5,381.6 points.

The 30-scrip index of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed at 17,622.45 points, 84.86 points or 0.48 per cent down from its previous close.

Sensex ended the week at 17,604.96 points, up 2.15 per cent or 370.98 points from its previous week's close at 17,233.98 points. Nifty also gained 2.32 per cent or 121.15 points during the week to close at 5,325.85 points.

The Sensex gained 0.92 per cent or 156.80 points to close at 17,233.98 points on Friday, the highest level in almost 10 weeks. Nifty closed 0.90 per cent or 46.40 points higher at 5,204.70 points on Friday, the last trading day of the week.

The BSE benchmark Sensex failed to maintain last week's gains and slipped 284 points due to fresh selling pressure, mainly in refinery, banking, realty, metal and auto counters, in view of persistent capital outflows from foreign funds.

Continuing its year-end downslide for the second day in a row, the stock market on Wednesday  lost further ground with a 146-point fall in the barometer Sensex amid weakness in blue-chips like RIL, ICICI Bank and SBI.
