At a time when questions are being raised against the validity of Aadhaar, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has rolled out the much-awaited Virtual ID which will be a random 16-digit number mapped to a person's Aadhaar number. The introduction of Virtual ID was announced to address privacy concerns. The Virtual ID can be used in lieu of Aadhaar number for identification or verification process.
