Mumbai suburban trains to get AC coaches
BT Online Bureau February 26, 2013Presenting the rail budget, Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said that Mumbai suburban trains will get AC coaches. He also proposed to introduce 67 new express trains.
Providing some relief to the general public reeling under the impact of high inflation, Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal did not announce any fare hike in his first rail budget.
He announced a number of measures to improve passenger amenities.
He said an SMS alert service will be rolled out soon to intimate passengers about reservation status. The minister also promised to improve the online reservation system said that internet booking would be provided from 0030 hours to 2330 hours.
He said that free Wi-Fi facility to be provided in select trains.
Special A/C coaches 'Anubhuti', to be introduced in select Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains to give excellent ambience with commensurate fare.
Railways will use Aadhar data base for bookings and validation of passengers.
He announced a Corporate Safety Plan the ten-year period (2014-24) and elimination of 10,700 unmanned level crossings targeted during the Plan.
