Wipro shares jump over 3 per cent ahead of Nifty inclusion

Wipro shares rose over 3 per cent on Wednesday after the National Stock Exchange announced that the IT major will enter the Nifty index with effect from September 27.

Wipro's scrip jumped 4.19 per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange to Rs 474 - its 52-week high - during the day's trade, before settling 3.63 per cent higher at Rs 471.40. At the National Stock Exchange, the stock 4.02 per cent to Rs 473.25.

Wipro was earlier dropped from the CNX Nifty index from April 1 as its non-IT businesses were hived off into a separate unit.

On the other hand, shares of Reliance Infrastructure - which would exit Nifty the same day - pared initial losses and ended 0.91 per cent higher at Rs 334.35..

The decision regarding these changes were announced on Tuesday by the India Index Services & Products Ltd, a joint venture of NSE and Crisil, which manages the various indices at the exchange.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex ended at 17,996.15, up 28.07 points.
