Realme Buds Air 2, Buds Q 2 get certified, likely to launch soon

Shubham Verma     December 4, 2020

Realme is planning to launch the second-generation of the Buds Air and Buds Q truly wireless earbuds. The latest certification filings made by Realme show that it is bringing at least two more TWS earbuds, dubbed Realme Buds Air 2 and Realme Buds Q 2. There is not much to deduce from these certifications but they do reaffirm that Realme is getting serious about its audio products more than ever. The company already has a solid track record in terms of sales of TWS earbuds.

The Realme Buds Air 2 have been spotted via a certification filing on the US FCC website. The model number for these earbuds is RMX2003 and the device can be seen having the same cavity as the Realme Buds Air earbuds come with. But, unfortunately, there is nothing else to know these truly wireless earbuds any better, except for the battery. The FCC certification has shown that the Buds Air 2 might come with a 400mAh battery inside the charging case. The battery details of the earbuds is not known. So is their design and the feature they might come with. Anyhow, at least, this gives a confirmation the Realme Buds Air 2 exists.

Moving to the next set of TWS earbuds, the Buds Q successor Buds Q 2 may have been certified by Indonesia Telecom. The TWS earbuds mentioned in the certification filing bears a model number RMX2008. There is not much to take away from this filing either, so I am not sure what sort of a design and the features this pair of truly wireless earbuds will come with. But going by the obvious, the Realme Buds Q 2 are going to be better than the Buds Q earbuds in terms of specifications.

Both the certification filings are pointing to a launch date sometime in January 2021. The launch could happen alongside one of the upcoming smartphones. The Realme Buds Q 2 could as well end up being another set of affordable earbuds, which means their launch could be scheduled to take place with a mid-range, budget, or entry-level smartphone. The company could also plan the launch to happen alongside the debut of some AIoT devices that Realme is bullishly working on.

The Realme Buds Air 2, on the other hand, are its premium category wireless earbuds. Launching these earbuds with the next flagship makes complete sense. The next flagship will be the successor to the X50 Pro 5G and come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor under the hood. Realme is calling this phone Race internally but its commercial name is not available yet. The rumour mill, however, has given out two names for this phone.

Realme Race could end up being commercially called either the Realme Ace or X60 Pro 5G. In the first case, the term Ace is said to have been borrowed from Oppo, which has been launching Ace smartphones in China. The Ace-branded smartphones originated under Oppo's Reno series but the company later decided to tear this series away to make it a standalone series under its umbrella. Oppo launched the Ace and Ace 2 after that decision but the Ace 3 has so far been absent from the rumour mill.

Amid all that, rumours were rife the Realme is taking the Ace name for its next flagship device. By a pure guess, the current codename Race for Realme is rhythmically identical to Ace. Realme will have to remove 'R' from 'Race' to make it 'Ace'. Well, jokes apart, Realme is expected to launch this flagship in the first quarter of 2021 and it could likely to fall sometime in February.
