OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T users to get Android 11 update in August

OnePlus has announced that it will roll out Android 11 to OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T users starting in August. This will be the third major OS update for the OnePlus 6 and the second major OS update for the OnePlus 6T. To remind you, both these devices launched back in 2018, while the OnePlus 6 lineup shipped with Android 8.1, the OnePlus 6T came out with Android 9 out of the box.

Like always, the brand made this announcement in a forum post mentioning that the update will be released at the end of August this year. This will be the final OS update for the OnePlus 6 users, meaning neither of these devices will get the upcoming Android 12.

This is definitely an appreciable effort from the update, and the brand is only committed towards providing two years of OS updates and three years of security updates. OnePlus may likely increase the number of OS and security updates in the near future. Last year Samsung announced three generations of Android OS upgrades for select Galaxy devices.

The update to be pushed in August will carry the beta version of Oxygen OS 11 based on Android 11. This will be just the first build, and we expect more builds to follow up soon after that. As per the stable build is concerned, we predict the rollout to happen at the end of the year.

Both the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T were flagship-grade smartphones powered by the flagship Snapdragon 845 SoCs. Further, these devices came with 6.41 inch FHD+ AMOLED displays. The camera department featured dual rear cameras consisting of a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 20-megapixel wide-angle lens. Whereas on the front, they had a 16-megapixel sensor for selfies. Finally, the OnePlus 6 came with a 3300mAh battery, whereas the OnePlus 6T with a slightly improved 3700mAh battery.
