2020 was a bad year. This has been said enough times and accepted by most people who wouldn't want to be reminded of the terrible year. But, nobody would have thought that a year could be so bad that it will have a dedicated game to it which is kind of fun. Yes, 2020 now has its own game 2020 game, a free web-based side scroller that offers a fun take on last year's events.
The game has a dedicated website which can be used by anyone for free of cost. It takes about 10 minutes to complete the journey, that is if you are able to survive coronavirus, stock market crash and other unfortunate events on the way. Needless to say, some of these are hilarious.
"Play through all the major events of 2020: The Australia Wildfires, COVID-19, the stock market crash, quarantine, the rise of TikTok, the US elections etc," the description of the game on its official website reads.
Developed by Max Garkavyy, 2020 game was built over a span of six months where each level is an event to forget from last year. The game looks inspired by Super Mario where the ultimate challenge is to avoid the obstacle and reach to the end. These obstacles come in the form of wildfires, COVID-19, TikTok, the US presidential election, and the endless quarantines.
This is Garkavyy's first game who is considering quitting his full time job and take game developing full time.
"I currently work at a boring office job in a big corporation and every day I wonder if I should take the plunge and quit my job to pursue making games. Do you think I should? 2020 Game is the attempt to prove to myself that I can pay the bills with my games, so the fact that you want to support me means a world to me!" he says on the official website of the game.
The developer is believed to have raised over $24,000 and might already be on his way to develop the next game.
