- Airtel has added more subscribers in October 2020 beating Reliance Jio for the third month in a row.
- Jio also had the highest number of inactive users in October 2020 at 21.41 per cent followed by Airtel and Vi with 3.26 per cent and 11.22 per cent respectively.
- Jio, however, continues to lead with the overall subscriber base of 406.36 million, followed by Airtel which is slowly catching up with 330.29 million subscribers.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released its subscriber data for October 2020. According to the regulator's data Airtel has added net 3.7 million wireless subscribers beating Reliance Jio which added 2.2 million subscribers. This is the third month in a row that Airtel has beaten Jio in terms of adding subscribers. Airtel's subscribers grew 1.12 per cent month-on-month as against Jio which was up 0.55 per cent in October, while Vodafone Idea (Vi) lost 2.7 million subscribers, down 0.9 per cent from previous month. BSNL lost a little over 10,000 existing users in October.
Airtel's active user base stands at a whopping 96.74 per cent followed by Jio which fared 78.59 per cent in the active user base sector. Vodafone Idea has 88.78 per cent users active on its network whereas BSNL users have 61.38 per cent active users. According to analysts, this could be because of the minimum recharge policy that requires Airtel and Vi users to recharge their numbers every month with a minimal amount to keep their accounts from getting deactivated.
Reliance Jio, however, continues to lead with the overall subscriber base of 406.36 million, followed by Airtel which is slowly catching up with 330.29 million subscribers followed by Vi with 292.84 million subscribers. BSNL's customer base at the end of October was 118.98 million. Jio also had the highest number of inactive users in October 2020 at 21.41 per cent followed by Airtel and Vi with 3.26 per cent and 11.22 per cent respectively .
Coming to the wireless subscriber market share, Jio topped with 35.28 per cent followed by Airtel at 28.69 per cent and Vi at 28.42 per cent at the end of October, 2020. Jio also added the maximum subscribers in the wireline segment with 245,912 additions. This was followed by Airtel with 48,397 subscribers
Total broadband subscriber base grew 1.17 per cent month-on-month reaching 734.82 million. Broadband market share (wired and wireline) of three top operators was Jio 55.53 per cent, Airtel 23.17 per cent and Vi 16.40 per cent. According to TRAI, the mobile number portability (MNP) requests increased from 520.8 million in September to 529.60 million in October.
