Amazon launches Amazon Pharmacy to deliver medicinesat home

Amazon will now deliver medicines to your home. The company has announced Amazon Pharmacy services which will enable home delivery of medicines. To place an order, users will be required to first submit their prescriptions. Amazon Prime members can enjoy special benefits and discounts on medication.

To set up an account on Amazon Pharmacy, users will have to enter basic details about them and also mention if they are allergic to any medicine. They will also have to submit their health conditions. After setting up, users will be asked to submit their prescription or Amazon can also request prescriptions on their behalf but that will take time.

Doctors can directly send prescriptions to Amazon Pharmacy and patients can also request transfers from their existing retailers. As per a CNBC report, the store will offer "a range of "generic and brand-name drugs" including "commonly prescribed drugs like insulin, triamcinolone steroid creams, metformin for controlling blood sugar, and sumatriptan for migraines."

The report states that Amazon Prime members will get special benefits. They can get medicines delivered to them in just two days. Along with that, they will get some special offers and discounts on medicines. The company says that Prime members will be able to save "up to 80 percent off generic and 40 percent off brand name medications when paying without insurance."

Users with and without insurance can order medicines from Amazon Pharmacy. If you have an insurance plan that covers your medicine cost, you will have to enter complete details about the plan. After saving the details, you can choose whether you want to use your insurance plan to make the payment or not.

Amazon Pharmacy has been launched in the United States and will go live in 45 states. It will not be available in states including Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Minnesota. There has been no announcement whether Amazon will launch the feature in other countries including India.

Talking about Amazon Pharmacy, Amazon's Senior Vice President of North American Consumer, Doug Herrington had said, "As more and more people look to complete everyday errands from home, pharmacy is an important and needed addition to the Amazon online store."

Coming to India, it currently has medicine delivery sites like 1Mg,netmeds, pharmeasy, practo, Bookmeds and other lesser-known apps. Out of all the medicine apps, Netmeds and 1Mg are widely used in the country.
