  • The revamped design of the entry-level AirPods will be similar to the current AirPods Pro, gaining a shorter stem and replaceable ear tips with improved battery life.

Apple is planning to bring out the second generation of Airpods Pro next year that are likely to be more compact. The Cupertino California-based tech giant is also working on third-generation entry-level AirPods, sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. Apple is also planning to bring out audio products like the HomePod mini and upcoming over-ear headphones and is further mulling over an audio device that sits between the HomePod mini and the original version.

The revamped design of the entry-level AirPods will be similar to the current AirPods Pro, gaining a shorter stem and replaceable ear tips. Further, Apple is also looking to improve battery life with the new entry-level AirPods. However, Apple will not bring high-end features like noise-cancellation that AirPods Pro possesses, sources told the publication.

Apple is planning to make the second-generation AirPods Pro more compact by eliminating the short stem that currently sticks out from the bottom. A design in testing has a more rounded shape that fills more of a user's ear. This development of this audio product has proved to be challenging because of the integration of noise-cancellation, wireless antennas and microphones into a smaller AirPods Pro casing. This may result in a less ambitious design, as per the report.

Apple may launch the new low-end AirPods during the first half of next year, however, there is no official word from the company yet. The company is planning to use new wireless chips to power both models. The company's Wearables, Home and Accessories division, which includes AirPods, reported $6.5 billion in revenue in the latest quarter, up more than 70 per cent from two years ago.

AirPods are priced at Rs 14,900 in India while AirPods Pro come for Rs 24,900 as per Apple's website. The company is likely to see a boost in sales after the new generation of iPhones will stop including earphones.

Apple is also mulling over bringing a Homepod that sits between the size, price, and sound quality of the HomePod and the HomePod mini. However, it is not clear if Apple will bring out the product or will make a price cut to the higher end of the Homepod.

Apple has been working on the production of high-end, noise-canceling over-ear headphones. The device has faced several development challenges over the past two years and has been delayed multiple times. Currently, it is facing a delay due to problems with the headband.
