- Apple could launch affordable iPhone model soon.
- It could be called the iPhone SE 2020.
- It is said to be powered by the Apple A13 Bionic chip.
Apple is highly anticipated to launch at least four iPhone models this year. Of them, one will be an affordable model that has been long-rumoured to debut sometime in April. But the name of Apple's entry-level iPhone model has been uncertain, tied between iPhone 9 and iPhone SE 2. A new report claims that it will be called the iPhone SE and it will soon go up for orders "very soon", today precisely.
Apple is not calling the model iPhone 9 or iPhone SE 2, instead, it is going for iPhone SE with '2020' as a suffix to bring out the distinction between the 2020 and 2016 models, as per a 9to5Mac report. The report has also leaked the colour options for the iPhone SE. Additionally, Apple's online store has listed Belkin screen protector for iPhone SE and an update AppleCare+ plan.
The affordable iPhone model this year will be iPhone SE 2020, reports 9to5Mac. It has claimed it managed to source information from a "highly trusted reader", who gave away many key details on the upcoming model. The iPhone SE is expected to rock the same A13 Bionic chip as found on the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The Apple A13 Bionic chipset enables AR apps and better performance than the previous-generation iPhone SE model.
The report mentions it will be targeted at the customers of iPhone 6, which has stopped receiving any significant software updates. According to the report, the iPhone SE 2020 will come in three storage options - 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB - while its colour options could be White, Black, and PRODUCT (RED). Apple will also sell five iPhone SE 2020 cases, the report says will be black silicone, white silicone, red leather, black leather, and midnight blue leather.
As for its pricing, the report could not provide the information but renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently tipped the iPhone SE 2020 could start at $399, which is roughly Rs 30,400. The iPhone SE 2016 model was launched for a price of Rs 39,999, which was around Rs 15,000 higher than what it cost in the US at the time. Apple may, however, subsidise the cost of the iPhone SE 2020 model if its recent shift in focus for the Indian market is anything to go by. Apple launched the iPhone 11 for Rs 64,900, which was way lower than the starting price of the predecessor iPhone XR, Rs 76,900, at the time of launch in India.
Moreover, Apple's online store in the US has now updated the Belkin InvisiGlass Ultra Screen Protector designed for iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 to include "iPhone SE" in the description. First spotted by Aaron Zollo, the iPhone SE could exist and be launched soon as the listing has freshly appeared on the website. Moreover, the listing shows the "iPhone SE" only for the 4.7-inch model but switches to display iPhone 8 Plus when the screen size is changed to something else. This also alludes to the possibility the iPhone SE Plus is being delayed. Kuo, earlier, said there could be a bigger variant of the iPhone SE this year, with a screen size of 5.5-inch.
Apple has also re-enabled AppleCare+ plan for iPhone SE, which also corroborates to the existence of the affordable model.
