The Flipkart Mobiles Bonanza sale has begun and as expected, it is coming up with a host of exciting offers on many phones across different price points. Asus is also a part of this sale and it has a couple of smartphones that are coming at lower than usual prices. The most prominent ones are the flagship models such as the Asus 5Z and Asus 6Z, with the latter coming in at a price that's hard to give a miss. In fact, the offer price makes it the cheapest phone with a Snapdragon 855 chip in India.
The Asus 6Z was among the most feature-rich premium smartphone in 2019 and over the year, the phone has received considerable price cuts. Currently, under the Flipkart sale, the Asus 6Z is enjoying immense price benefits and it starts from as low as Rs 23,999. This is the price for the base variant of the phone with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. The other variants of the 6Z are also on offer with reduced prices.
Hence, if you seek more storage, you can opt for the second variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage that is coming in at Rs 26,999. Sadly, the top-end variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is not on offer here. That said, the lowered prices on the other two variants make the 6Z the most affordable smartphone you can buy with the Snapdragon 855 chipset.
Is it a sensible buy as a premium smartphone in 2020?
The Snapdragon 855 chip is now more than a year old but it is by no means a weak chipset. Even with the Snapdragon 865 coming in, the Snapdragon 855 doesn't lag behind massively in terms of CPU and GPU performance. All the latest games that you can think of on Android can be played in the highest settings easily. On the Asus 6Z, that translates into much better performance than any of the other midrange phones with low-end chipsets.
Asus also offers a stock Android inspired ZenUI 6 which now runs on the latest version of Android, i.e. Android 10. Asus has also given the phone a massive 5000mAh battery along with support for 18W fast charging. The phone even gets a notch-less display with slim bezels and at 6.3-inches, the Full HD+ IPS LCD display is a nice way to consume content.
However, the standout feature of the phone is its Flip Camera system that takes mobile photography to the next level. The Asus 6Z has a pair of a 48-megapixel main camera using the Sony IMX586 sensor and a secondary 13-megapixel wide-angle camera sitting on a flip module. These cameras can be used for shooting regular photos and while taking a selfie, the cameras flip to the front. Hence, you get the same high-quality images and videos even while taking selfies. The motor can be mechanically controlled and that makes it a good feature for vloggers.
There are a couple of issues with the Asus 6Z, prime among which is the Flip Camera itself. It is a motorised module and despite Asus claiming a long life of the motor, it is more prone to damage than a regular pop-up camera. Additionally, the Asus 6Z is not a great looking phone and if looks are what you seek, you can look at the Redmi K20 Pro or the Realme X2 Pro.
