- The ROG Phone 3 will get a new triple camera system.
It is mid-2020 and even though the world is battling the COVID-19 pandemic, smartphone manufacturers are at their best coming up with exciting smartphones. After a couple of all-round flagship phones, it is time for some gaming phones and Asus is next in the line with its ROG Phone 3. The device has gone through a couple of certifications and safe to say, it could launch soon. In fact, a recent tip has shown the phone in flesh.
Popular tipster Digital Chat Station has shared an image showing the Asus ROG Phone 3 on Weibo. Similar to the ROG Phone 2, Asus may launch it first in the Chinese market and bring it later to other global markets, including India. The image shared by the tipster shows the ROG Phone 3 from the rear. If this is indeed the new model, existing ROG Phone 2 owners having nothing to worry about.
The new model looks exactly the same as the outgoing model and it even comes in the same reflective black finish. There are some graphics on the body while the plastic component to the side seems to have shrunk. The only element that's new here is the new triple camera system, which has been the trend for all gaming phones in 2020. This version shown in the photo even carries a Tencent branding.
The tipster has also gone on to share some of the specifications on the ROG Phone 3. Rubbishing some of the previous rumours, the new model is coming with an overclocked Snapdragon 865 chip. The processor will run at a clockspeed of 3GHz, which is higher than the 2.8GHz of the Snapdragon 865.
The top-end variant is also going to get 16GB RAM and like the current model, it will have a 6000mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging. The display is going to remain unchanged at 6.59-inches with a Full HD+ AMOLED screen but it is said that refresh could could vary between 120Hz and 144Hz. The main camera will use a 64-megapixel sensor, possibly from Sony.
Now, these are unverified leaks and you should not believe them blindly. However, with the intensity of leaks increasing, it seems that Asus might be launching it in the next few weeks.
Chances are that Asus could have two variants of the ROG Phone 3 similar to last year. The base model could end up with a 120Hz display and 8GB RAM along with 128GB storage to keep the costs low. The top-end variant could end up with a 144Hz refresh rate display, 16GB RAM and more storage.
In markets like India, the ROG Phone 3 will have to face other gaming phones such as the iQOO 3 and Realme X50 Pro. It remains to be seen what kind of pricing strategy does Asus adopt for the ROG Phone 3, given the higher taxes and increasing supply chain costs this year.
