Government-owned telco BSNL is slowly making its way into the 4G telecom market. To make its presence more prominent, BSNL has brought in an offer that will let its users upgrade their SIM cards at no cost. 2G or 3G BSNL users can swap their SIM cards to 4G for free, Telecom Talk reported.
The offer will last in the market for 90 days. It was started on April 1 and will go on for the next two months.
Although BSNL is providing 4G services in some circles of the country, it has a long way to go when other telcos are brought into the picture.
BSNL recently announced Procurement of Tender in which it had stated that the bidding would end on May 8. But in the latest development, it released a Postponement of Tender to May 23, a report by Telecom Talk stated.
With telecom gear vendors like Samsung, Nokia, ZTE showing interest in BSNL, the nationwide rollout in all four zones does not seem far for BSNL.
A report by ET stated that the current 4G expansion and upgradation plan will happen on 50,000 new 4G sites in north, east, west, and south zones. The 4G sites will also occur in 7000 new sites in Mumbai and Delhi zones.
The new tender involves equipment for network planning, engineering, supply, installation, testing, and annual maintenance of the 4G network, the report stated.
BSNL offers 4 percent discount and cashback to recharge for other BSNL users
BSNL recently announced a four percent discount to users who recharge for other BSNL numbers. The offer is going to be valid until May 31 with the scheme applicable to registered users.
Users can receive official cashback for performing recharge on other BSNL numbers.
The first scheme is the Apno ki Madad Se Recharge which enables a BSNL user to recharge another BSNL number for his family or friends. On recharging the number for his family or friends, the BSNL user will get a four percent discount and will be eligible for a cashback.
The next scheme is the Ghar Baithe Recharge which enables users to request for recharge with a BSNL official who would reach out to the subscriber and provide the requested recharge.
