Canon is always making headlines for planning new releases every now and then. The company keeps on experimenting with the imaging products to come out with something unique. If not, then the Japanese camera maker keeps a tab on the latest trends. Right after Nikon's webcam software release for Mac and Windows on November 4, Canon has done the same.
In a recent announcement, Canon USA has launched the full production version of the EOS Webcam Utility Software for both macOS and Windows. As Canon Rumors reported, the company "today announced the full production version 1.0 of the EOS Webcam Utility Software for macOS as well as version 1.1 for Windows." The software is officially out of beta version and both the macOS and Windows users can access it.
The Canon EOS Webcam Utility converts compatible Canon EOS Interchangeable Lens (ILC) and PowerShot cameras into webcams. The software will essentially help users with high-quality video conferencing, or streaming. The latest EOS Webcam Utility Software is compatible with 43 EOS and PowerShot cameras and 14 video conferencing services.
The complete list of 43 compatible Canon EOS and PowerShot cameras includes: EOS-1D X Mark I, II, and III, EOS 5D cameras, a wide range of EOS Rebel cameras, EOS R series of cameras featuring the latest EOS R6 and R5, EOS M series of cameras, and also 3 PowerShot cameras such as PowerShot G5X Mark II, PowerShot G7X Mark III, PowerShot SX70 HS among others. As mentioned, the EOS Webcam Utility Software also supports 14 video conferencing services namely Cisco Webex, Facebook Messenger, Streamlabs OBS, Discord, Microsoft Teams, YouTube Live, Facebook Live, Open Broadcaster Software, ZOOM, Hangouts, Skype, Apple FaceTime, Hangouts Meet, and Slack.
Canon Rumors also state that users can now record their video file onto the memory card in their camera while video conferencing or streaming. Camera users will need to press the record button on the device and do nothing with the software. Though there are certain restrictions as this feature also depends upon the camera specifications, such as maximum video recording time.
As for the software availability, Canon EOS Webcam Utility is obtainable worldwide. The software can be downloaded directly from the official Canon website in each region.
