Highlights

  • Canon did register a new camera design which appears to be a vlogging camera.
  • The design looks similar to DJI Osmo camera.
  • Canon's future vlogging camera may use company's M-mount system.

Canon is one of those few camera makers with remarkable patents. In fact, company's CEO Kevin Ogawa recently stated that Canon is the only company to be in the top 5 for 34 consecutive years when it comes to registering patents. For instance, we reported Canon may replace the shutter button with touchpad in future cameras. This is because the company did register a design where a shutter button on a camera body is replaced with a shutter touchpad.

This time, it is about Canon coming up with a vlogging camera similar to DJI Osmo. This was reported by Canon News two weeks ago, but diving deep into the report now reveals that the vlogging camera could use the company's M-mount system. The Canon M-mount system is dedicated to mirrorless cameras. Now, there is a possibility that the company is looking at the M-mount system with a refresh take.

Our analysis of Canon using the M-mount system on the vlogging camera is based on two reasons. One, Canon News wrote, "Canon shows this patent as an ILC, and you'd think the smaller mount such as the EOS-M would fare much better here than the larger RF mount." Two, the rumours that were doing rounds on the internet that the company will put an end to its EOS M lineup has been shushed. Canon News itself shut off the rumours by stating that a reliable source confirmed that this is "not happening any time soon".

The production of the EOS M cameras and lenses probably slow down but that is because of the coronavirus outbreak and company's manufacturing challenges in Japan. Otherwise there is no minuscule reason to discontinue the EOS M lineup. Afterall, Canon EOS M50 is one of its top-selling mirrorless cameras, The company has also released its successor, the Canon EOS M50 Mark II mirrorless camera in India for Rs 58,995.

Coming back to Canon's recent vlogging camera patent, we understand that the company has got one more design registered to itself. But the reality is that we are uncertain if a vlogging camera of this nature will ever come to existence. Even if it does, the Canon will make sure to include the top-flight features in the product. This way, the company will be able to compete with some really good existing vlogging cameras for users.
