Days after launching the dark mode for the web, Facebook finally plans to bring the dark theme for the mobile app as well. As per a report published in SocialMedia Today, Facebook has made the feature available to some of its users across the globe. This shows that the feature has not been rolled out for the wider audience and it might take Facebook a while to officially release it for users.
A Twitter user by the handle of @notfridaycraig had shared a few screenshots of the Facebook dark theme, which he claims to have received on his mobile app. He captioned the post, "So I have a dark mode on Facebook now." In the screenshots, you can see a separate dark mode tab that is placed right below the settings tab. Once implemented, this would allow the users to switch the mode on and off.
It was earlier being reported that Facebook is developing dark mode for iOS. The reports had claimed that the color would be dominant grey with white accents icons and logos. This had evoked mixed reactions from the Facebook users as some preferred a pitch-black interface while some were quite happy with the grayscale design. The users can enable and disable the dark mode through the in-app settings but iOS users will also get an option to adjust the appearance based on their iOS preferences.
At the F8 developers' conference, Facebook had unveiled its redesigned app for desktop with dark mode for the majority of users around the world. Facebook had said that the dark mode reduces the glare and the dimmed lights will not be as harmful to the eyes as the normal mode is.
Earlier, Facebook had officially rolled out the dark mode for its other platforms including Instagram and WhatsApp. To get the dark mode feature, one needs to upgrade its operating system to iOS and Android users would require the latest Android 10 to use the function. The dark mode is not only helpful for the eyes, but it also helps in saving the battery life of your phone. The dark mode gives a better viewing experience to users as it doesn't emit as many lights as the normal mode does. It is helpful for people who spend a lot of time with their phones as it reduces the light emission and manages the color contrast ratios which are important for readability.
