Facebook is giving you more ways to connect with your neighbours. It is testing a new feature that will allow you to be in touch with people in your neighbourhood. This idea is much like that of Nextdoor Inc, which is apparently preparing for its public offering. One too many screenshots of Facebook's new Neighborhoods feature reveal some of the ways that people can use to communicate with their neighbours over a range of topics.

Social media consultant Matt Navara shared these screenshots on Twitter to point at Facebook's new feature. Per these images, the user will be required to enter their address and complete creating a unique "neighbourhood profile." A Facebook spokesperson confirmed the Neighborhoods feature and said that this feature is under testing in Calgary.

"More than ever, people are using Facebook to participate in their local communities," the spokesperson told Bloomberg. "To help make it easier to do this, we are rolling out a limited test of Neighborhoods, a dedicated space within Facebook for people to connect with their neighbors."

While the crux of this Neighborhoods feature is going to be intimate communication between neighbours, Facebook is ensuring its community guidelines are diligently followed by users of this feature. As seen in some screenshots, Facebook is urging users to "Keep It Clean" and "Be Inclusive" when using the feature.

The latest feature comes as Facebook is thinking of ways to push intimate communication among users. Over the past few years, it has tried integrating features of its messaging apps Instagram and WhatsApp into Messenger for a smooth transition between apps. Not just these features, Facebook is moving towards offering personal services within its ecosystem, such as its dating service for select customers.

Facebook's idea behind giving its customers a cohesive ecosystem to connect with neighbours is not a new one though. Popular social networking platform Nextdoor thought it first and has been successful since its foundation in 2008. The company is now considering multiple options for its first public offering, according to Bloomberg News. Facebook is seeing a big opportunity in this market to crush Nextdoor. Facebook has a history of copying rival products and tweaking them for its own. Neighborhoods is just the latest one of them.
