Google Meet has been integrated into the Gmail accounts of the users in India. If you open your Gmail account today, the first thing that you will notice is a pop-up on the left side with Meet written on it. Under the Meet section, you will find two options "Start a Meeting and Join a Meeting". By the looks of it, the Meet app seems extremely easy to use and the Gmail users can easily use it without much ado.
A few days ago, Google made the premium Meet app free for all users and also announced that it would come directly to Gmail. This seems like a well-thought-of strategy to take on other video conferring app like Zoom, Skype and others. Since everyone these days has a Gmail account, Google Meet seems more convenient to use than any other video calling platform.
However, if you don't have a Gmail account yet, you can access Google Meet your Google account. Notably, you don't need a Gmail account to create a Google account. But since it is now directly available in Gmail, creating a Gmail account wouldn't be a bad idea.
So here's how you can start a video call in Google Meet via Gmail
— You will find the Google Meet section right below the Drafts. Below it, you will find two options "Start a Meeting and Join a Meeting".
—When you click on Start a Meeting, Google Meet will ask for permission to access your laptop's camera and microphone.
—Once the access to the camera is granted, the camera will take seconds to setup.
—Once that is done, you will get a message saying that Meeting is ready.
—Google Meet will ask whether you want to join a call or give a presentation.
—If you click on Join Now, a new pop-up window with a link to video chat You can either copy and send it to people to join it or can manually add participants to the call.
— You can also join a meeting by entering the Meeting ID provided to you by the host.
Setting up Google Meet through Gmail seems easier than we thought. It wouldn't take much more than a minute to set up a call.
Google Meet also has some advanced features like scheduling and sharing screen, real-time captions, and layouts that you can choose as per your requirement, an expanded tiled view—that gives a better view of the people connected through the app.
