The second generation of the Google Nest Hub has been launched with scores of new features. The new generation Nest Hub comes with a smart display that can track the sleep pattern of a person. The device does not come with a camera but Google has said that it has improved the audio output of the Nest Hub. The smart display uses the same audio technology that was used in the Nest Audio, it has over 50 percent more bass than its predecessor.
Talking about the new launch, Ashton Udall, Product Manager, Google Nest said in a blog post, "We've been exploring ways to make these devices even more helpful. We know people already come to Google for information and tools to help them live healthier, happier lives, and we've specifically noticed more and more questions about sleep, exercise, and health. So we decided to bring these kinds of solutions to our second-generation Nest Hub, while also improving what people already love about it."
So let us have a look at the features and the price of the Google Nest Hub smart display.
Google Nest Hub 2: Price and availability
The Google Nest Hub second generation has been launched at a price of $99.99 (roughly Rs. 7,250). The device is currently available for pre-orders in Australia, Canada, Germany, France, the UK, and the US through the official Google website and other retailers. The Nest Hub 2 has been launched with four different color options including Chalk, Charcoal, Mist, and Sand. As far as the India launch of the device is concerned, Google has not shared its plans of launching the Nest Hub in India and other countries.
Google Nest Hub 2: Features and specifications
The design of the Nest Hub 2 is similar to the original nest hub. It comes with a screen to let users watch movies, web series on streaming apps including the like Netflix, Disney+, and YouTube TV. Users will also have access to YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music, and Pandora if they want to listen to music on Google Nest Hub.
However, the highlight of the Nest Hub 2 is its sleep tracking feature. Udall in the blog stated that people found it comfortable with Nest Hub at their bedsides because of the absence of the camera in it. So the company introduced an opt-in feature called Sleep Sensing, which can help users understand and improve their sleep patterns. Wearing a bulky smartwatch to sleep is not very comfortable always. So Google now wants to make it easier for users to track their sleep patterns.
"Sleep Sensing uses Motion Sense (powered by Soli low-energy radar technology) to analyze how the person closest to the display is sleeping, based on their movement and breathing — all without a camera or wearable. Sleep Sensing can also detect sleep disturbances like coughing and snoring or the light and temperature changes in the room with Nest Hub's built-in microphones and ambient light and temperature sensors, so you can better understand what's impacting your sleep," the blog said.
Every morning Google Nest Hub 2 will display your sleep pattern when you wake up. You can also ask the Nest Hub about your sleep pattern.
