Pixel 4a, the upcoming affordable smartphone from Google, has been headlining the rumour mill for a long time now. Its look, key specifications, and even the retail box images have surfaced on the Internet, giving us a fair idea that the launch is imminent. Previously, the Pixel 4a was speculated to launch at the I/O this year but Google's event stands cancelled now. Now that Apple is already out with its by far the affordable iPhone SE 2020, Google seems preparing itself for the Pixel 4a launch. The Google Pixel 4a is expected to launch sometime in May or June if the recent indicators are anything to go by.
What do rumours say about Pixel 4a?
Let us revisit what we have learnt so far about the Pixel 4a. Some early reports suggested the Pixel specifications, including a mid-range processor and, of course, the Pixel's exemplary cameras. There are some trade-offs, however, to justify the pricing. Moreover, the affordable Pixel smartphone for this year has leaked in multiple images, including the ones that were shared in a private Facebook group and those extracted from some hands-on. More so, the Pixel 4a retail boxes also leaked in images, hinting that the smartphone is almost ready for shipping. But the launch timeline of the smartphone is in a quandary.
As such, we also have some information about what Google has been doing to circumvent the production of its smartphones. Since China was under lockdown, owing to the covid-19 pandemic, Google moved the production to Vietnam in the light of better feasibility there, as per a Nikkei Asian Review report. Now, Google is also probably manufacturing Pixel 4a at its newly-shifted facility in Vietnam, which could fast-track the production and avoid any delays. The retail box images, which have not been verified for their authenticity yet, also allude to a closer launch timeline. For now, we do not know what these timelines could be.
Pixel 4a Launch
Google's I/O conference previously scheduled for May may have been cancelled for this year but the Mountain View-based company could take a page from Apple's playbook and go for a digital launch of the Pixel 4a next month or so. If things go well, Google Pixel 4a should be out in mid-May or early-June.
