In a bid to combat online bullying, Instagram has announced a host of new features that will allow users to delete unsavory comments and control who can tag or mention them in a post. The users can now delete comments in bulk and prohibit people from mentioning or tagging them in any of the posts on the platform. The new features can be particularly useful for people in the public eye and the influencers, who deal with a lot of slander and abuse on a daily basis.
"Today, we're sharing the fifth edition of our Community Standards Enforcement Report which tracks our progress to keep Facebook and Instagram safe. In addition to this report, we're announcing new features that mark the continuation of our effort to lead the industry in the fight against online bullying," Instagram said in a blog.
Instagram is also planning to introduce a new feature that would enable users to pin positive comments to the top. So check out other features introduced by the Facebook-owned app and how what they mean
Removing unwanted comments
To put an end to unwanted interactions on Instagram, the photo-sharing app has given the option of removing derogatory comments in bulk. The app is testing the feature currently and once that is implemented, users can select comments together and remove them from the timeline. It is going to be very useful to people who have a large number of followers on Instagram. They can use this feature to maintain positivity in their accounts and get rid of hateful comments.
To use this feature, the iOS users are required to tap on a comment they want to remove and then select the dotted icon in the top right corner. After tapping there, tap Manage Comments and select up to 25 comments to delete at once. Users can also block or restrict accounts in bulk using the same method.
Prohibiting users from tagging or mentioning you
Many times the miscreants tag or mention people in distasteful posts to bully them or demean them. However, this can be stopped now as Instagram is rolling out new features that would allow users to manage who can tag or mention them on Instagram. Users can choose whether they want everyone, only people they follow or no one to be able to tag or mention them in a comment, caption, or Story. All these controls will be available under the Privacy section of the app.
Pinning positive comments on the top
Apart from removing negative comments, Instagram is also introducing a feature that would allow users to pin their favorite comment to the top. Users can pin more than one comment to the top of their comments thread.
