Yahoo refreshes home page for India

Keeping in mind that almost 50 per cent of the web traffic comes from mobile devices, Yahoo has gone in for a big platform change - 'Think mobile first'.

The company has refreshed the look of its home page for its Indian audience along with five other countries - Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia. The company aims to make it a highly personalised experience. Hence, the interface of the new home page will appear seamless across different screens.

"The new Yahoo home page offers a personalised view of content stream and utility apps. The Yahoo USA home page has been customised to a great extent. We wish to replicate the same in India over the due course of time," says, Nitin Mathur, Senior Director and Head of Marketing, Yahoo! India and South East Asia.

The home page might look similar to the pervious one at first glance. But there are some significant changes.

The new home page is easy to use with modern and intuitive experience. It has a cleaner design with emphasis on stories and utility apps. The lead story on the home page has got a bigger display. The stories appear in the form of stream and has a virtually endless stream of content. This stream is divided into various categories such as news, sports, celebrity stories, entertainment and lifestyle.

Yahoo home page examines the kind of stories the user reads and pushes similar content over the period of time. Yahoo has added a 'Y' icon for saving a story for later use. A 'delete' icon is also there to remove the story from the stream.

In the utility apps, one can keep a tab on the stocks, check birthday reminders, weather, astrology, video stream and much more. These apps can be customised.

By making so many options available, Yahoo is offering 13,000 variations of home page per hour across the world.

The Yahoo user can log in to access the similar experience on their laptops, tablets and mobile phones. For instance, the saved stories on the desktop can also be read on the mobile handset. For mobiles, the Yahoo home page is almost 30 per cent faster than the previous version.

Yahoo has over 800 million users worldwide and Yahoo India home page gets over 30 million unique visitors every month.
