In a few weeks from now, Samsung is going to reveal its next-generation flagship phones, followed by Xiaomi and OnePlus. However, Apple's iPhone 9 is garnering substantial interest despite rumoured to be a 2020 refresh of old iPhone 8. Expected to come in as the successor to the iPhone SE, the iPhone 9 will be an affordable alternative to a rather premium iPhone 11 variants. And now, rumours of the iPhone 9 launching in March are coming in.
A recent report from Bloomberg has suggested that Apple will begin production of its upcoming low-cost iPhone from February and it will be made available to the public in March. Even though the Bloomberg report hasn't given out the name of the low-cost iPhone, it seems to be the rumoured iPhone 9. Apple usually launches a new device in March and this year, it seems that it will be reserved for the new low-cost iPhone 9 model.
Apple has been long rumoured to work on a successor to the iPhone SE since a few years, given that the iPhone SE was launched back in 2016. The phone was eventually pulled down from the markets last year and Apple's entry-level phone for the masses was the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 8, both of which are a few years old.
However, with the iPhone 9 or iPhone SE 2, Apple is looking gain some traction back in the affordable segments under Rs 40,000. Hence, the company will be offering the same specifications and performance as the new iPhone 11 but stuffed in the body of the older iPhone 8. Users will get the classic iPhone 6 design with a compact 4.7-inch display and possibly a TouchID system for biometric verification.
However, compared to the older iPhone 8, the iPhone 9 is expected to get the same main 12-megapixel camera as the iPhone 11. The A13 Bionic chip will take over duties from the A11 Bionic whereas you can even expect better battery life. The phone will retain the glass back and that means it will also retain the wireless charging system.
With these limited features, the iPhone 9 seems like a compromise but Apple is going to sell the iPhone 9 at a very low price. Rumours suggest that the base variant of the iPhone 9 could end up coming with 64GB storage and it could be cheaper than a base OnePlus 7T in India. Chances are that Apple could phase out the iPhone 6S, iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 at the same time while the iPhone XR could continue to sell along with the iPhone 9 offering a FaceID equipped alternative at a similar price.
