Realme launched two new 5G phones in India earlier this week. One is the X7 and the other one is X7 Pro -- both taking forward the legacy of the company's X-series but in a more affordable segment. The Realme X7 Pro is the premium one among the two. It has all the glitters, quite literally. The Fantasy colour variant shines in rainbow colours at various angles. It is shimmery, has a big display, a sleek profile, and the promise of 5G that Relame is unleashing on to you for Rs 29,999.
This is a favourable price point because most 5G phones, the deluge of which began last year, have otherwise tried to attract premium customers. This year is going to be significant for India's 5G market with the first deployment expected sometime in the second half. This makes it extremely important for Realme and other companies to democratise 5G and that is possible only through mid-end and low-end phones. The latter may still be far, mid-range phones are flourishing and X7 Pro is one of them.
Realme X7 Pro is the phone that will grab your attention in a jiffy. And that is what the company wants to do with the glossy designs. After you are arrested by the looks, you will want to stay for 5G and then the features of the phone. I did rigorous testing of these features and wrote my experience in the review so that you are informed well about this phone. In case the review seems lengthy to you, here is a synopsis of my observations in five points.
-- Realme X7 Pro comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ processor coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. You cannot expand the storage on the phone, however. Now, this chipset brings 5G connectivity on both SIM card slots but, to my dismay, I could not test the capabilities due to the lack of commercial 5G connectivity in India. But 4G works well. Another thing that the processor allows for is excellent multitasking and gaming. You will be thoroughly impressed by how fast this phone can get when you throw various tasks at it.
-- Realme has used a Super AMOLED display on the X7 Pro that measures 6.55-inches. This is a 1080p resolution screen that supports HDR10 but the biggest takeaway for you is the 120Hz refresh rate. The display is colourful and can get quite bright under direct sunlight. I had absolutely no complaints watching movies, shows and playing games on this display. The touch sampling rate of up to 240Hz makes the display very much responsive.
-- Realme X7 Pro has a 64MP quad-camera setup on the back. The auxiliary cameras are an 8MP ultrawide camera and two 2MP cameras. Now, this camera is a Sony sensor and it brings excellent results. The photos clicked using this sensor are well-detailed, retain good colours, and have a good dynamic range. The ultrawide sensor may show some degraded details while the macro sensor is decent. The selfie camera clicks selfies with warm tones and the AI portrait mode makes them look artificial. In case you are looking for night mode, you will not be disappointed by X7 Pro cameras. For videos, there is good stabilisation, as well.
-- The Realme X7 Pro has two speakers, one at the bottom and one in the form of the earpiece. There are Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res support on the speakers that makes sound crystal clear. The bass and beats have distinctive sounds. If you are a gamer who does not rely much on earphones, the Realme X7 Pro speakers will impress you.
-- Finally, the Realme X7 Pro has a 4500mAh battery inside. This battery lasts for a day and some more. On a regular usage, which comprises a 4-5 hour long internet consumption, a 45-minute gaming session, clicking photographs sometimes, and watching a Netflix movie, the Realme X7 Pro proves its mettle. And when the battery finally dies out on you, you have the 65W fast charging support that tops the battery up entirely in under 40 minutes. This battery does not even get warm when playing games.
