JioFiber has maintained its top rank in terms of Netflix's ISP speed index for February 2021. The internet service provider recorded an unmatched average speed of 3.6 Mbps for February and has maintained the top position for the past six months. According to the streaming giant, the Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of prime-time Netflix performance on particular internet service providers (ISPs) around the globe. Netflix also notes that the ISP speed index is not a measure of overall performance for other services or data that may travel across the specific ISP network.
JioFiber gives users broadband plans starting from Rs 399 a month. It also gives access to 16 OTT platforms with its top-tier plans. Two separate 30-day trial plans from JioFiber are priced at Rs 1500 and Rs 2500 and are refundable. They offer 30 days validity with no rental cost, but a refundable deposit of Rs 1000. Both plans offer 150Mbps data with a FUP limit of 3.3TB a month. While the Rs 1500 plan does not bring any OTT benefits, the Rs 2500 plan gives access to 13 OTT platforms.
Coming back to Netflix ISP speed index, JioFiber was followed by 7 Star Digital, Airtel, Atria Convergence Technologies, Excitel broadband, Spectra and Tata Sky broadband in terms of ISP speed that gave 3.4 Mbps speed in February 2021. The third place in terms of ISP speed was shared by Alliance Broadband, D- VoIS, GTPL, Hathway, One Broadband, Syscon Infoway, and You Broadband. These internet service providers gave 3.2 Mbps in February 2021. Tikona, BSNL and MTNL were at the 4th, 5th and 6th positions respectively with 3 Mbps, 2.8 Mbps and 2.4 Mbps respectively.
India is positioned second in terms of average speed worldwide with a 3.4 Mbps average internet speed. Along with India are, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malaysia, New Zealand, Panama, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal and South Korea with the same average speed.
Ranked on the first position with 3.6 Mbps average speed are the following countries: Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Hong Kong, Israel, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States.
In related news, BSNL has revised its broadband plans with additional speed and data to attract customers. These plans start at Rs 777 and go up to Rs 16,999, Airtel XStream, BSNL and JioFiber give streaming benefits to users along with their broadband plans. The telcos offer broadband plans along with streaming benefits starting from Rs 499. Excitel has now jumped into the fray to give streaming benefits to users who subscribe to a 3-month subscription of 300 Mbps plan which is priced at Rs 752 per month and Rs 2256 for three months. Excitel on Monday announced that it will give users access to multiple over-the-top (OTT) platforms namely ZEE5, Voot, Eros, Shemaroo at no added cost.
