Hewlett-Packard has designs on your workspace, quite literally. The Z1, launched on Thursday, is the world's only 27-inch all-in-one workstation .  It might be an all-in-one with just a large screen to look at, but the Z1 has everything that you would look for in a heavy duty workstation - an Intel Xeon processor, ECC memory, NVIDIA Quadro graphics and more.

These are not the only features that make this machine cutting-edge. The Z1 has been designed with a tool-less chassis, which means you can upgrade or change processors, graphics, pretty much anything by just pulling out the module and swapping it for a new one. This modular design will drastically reduce downtime in these machines, one of the main industry requirements in this segment.

The 27-inch in-plane switching (IPS) panel can display up to a billion colours making it ideal for design and graphic artists as well as industries that use a lot of visual simulations. The screen can be folded back in a reclining position to open the panel and facilitate the swapping of modules, all without a single cable in sight. The modular design also makes sure that all parts have their individual thermal space and do not affect each other. This design aspect makes the Z1 a really cool and quiet device.

SPECIAL:Most awaited gadgets of 2012

The HP Z1 costs Rs 99,990 onwards depending on the configuration.

HP, which claims a 52 per cent market share in the workstation segment in India, thinks its new workstations will help it consolidate its top position. "Every second workstation in India is a HP machine, which means that almost everything you do is somehow connected to our machine in some way or the other," explains Vinay Awasthi, Senior Director, Product Category, Personal Systems Group. Regular desktops will find it difficult to live with the complexities and pressures of computing these days, he says, adding that the Z1 and other machines in the range will also be good upgrade for prosumers who need to do more.

SPECIAL: Technologies to look out for in 2012

"Our workstations are designed specifically for environments like India. This is customer driven innovation at its best," said Anneliese Olson, Vide-President, Client Solutions, Accessories and Services, Asia Pacific and Japan.
