Back in 2018, Xiaomi announced its foray in the smart TV industry with the 55-inch Mi TV 4. The TV drew eyeballs with its slim design and after Xiaomi announced it would be upgraded to Android TV with a later update, it made a lot of sense despite its premium price of Rs 45,000. However, the Android TV update has been endlessly delayed and now it is declared to be not coming to it. To cheer up its customers, Xiaomi has now crafted a sweet deal.

Last week, Xiaomi announced the Mi Box 4K streaming player for India along with the Mi 10 and Mi True Wireless Earphones 2. One can get a new one at a price of Rs 3,499, which makes for a great deal for someone who wants to upgrade to a smart TV but is not in the mood to buy a new set. Xiaomi is offering a special discount of Rs 1,000 on the Mi Box 4K for the customers of the Mi TV 4 55-inch 2018 model.

Hence, if you have a Mi TV 4 55-inch model, you can grab the Mi Box 4K at a price of Rs 2,500. This sounds like a good deal if one wants to access OTT apps on the 2-years-old smart TV. However, for existing customers, this is still a notable price to pay just to get access to smart apps and services, something which was promised as a free upgrade to these customers.

This is what Xiaomi had to say about the matter, "At Xiaomi, our endeavour is to provide the best Smart TV experience to all our Mi Fans and we are constantly working on improving it. While we have pushed the latest Android TV update to over 3 Million devices, we regret to inform that android updates cannot be made available to Mi TV 4 55 because of the custom chip used in the device on account of its unique design which does not support the requirement for Android TV codecs. In lieu of the same, we are offering a discount of Rs 1000 on our newly launched Mi Box 4K to all our existing Mi TV 4 55 customers."

Those who want to avail the offer need to visit Xiaomi's online store and register with their details, including the serial number for the Mi TV 4 55-inch along with the mode of purchase. Once validated, Xiaomi will send a coupon code via an email, which can be then applied while purchasing the Mi Box 4K from Mi.com.

For those in the unknown, the Mi Box 4K runs on Android TV and supports all the latest OTT apps. It can also stream in 4K and supports HDR10 colours as well.
