  • Surface Laptop Go is Microsoft's lightest Surface Laptop yet.
  • It comes with a touchscreen display.
  • Microsoft says the Laptop Go is aimed at professionals, students, and teachers in India.

Surface Laptop Go, Microsoft's latest Surface device, finally arrived in India. It comes in a compact design and tries to offer a balanced package. It looks stunning while packs enough punch to get you through the day. But the real head-turner here is the aggressive pricing from Microsoft. The Surface Laptop Go has been launched at a starting price of Rs 63,499 for the base model featuring 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

The company has also launched the Surface Laptop Go in other variants - 8GB RAM and 128GB storage priced at Rs 71,999 and 8GB RAM and 256GB storage model at Rs 91,999.

Microsoft has announced that the Surface Laptop Go will be available for consumers as well as a commercial device for enterprises. The company talked about how pandemic and lockdown have pushed Surface devices' sales in India with every new quarter being greater than the last one.

Before diving into our first impressions of the Surface Laptop Go, we will talk about some features that made it look good. Unlike Surface tablets, the new Microsoft Surface Laptop Go doesn't come with a detachable keyboard, and this works in favour of the device. The touchscreen adds a layer of convenience while everyday use, and the 720p HD web camera ensures that your virtual meetings are not hazy.

Best of Surface at a budget

Starting with the design, the Surface Laptop Go comes with a full-fledged keyboard with a nice feel. The 12.4-inch PixelSense display initially looked small compared to the MacBook Air that I was using for the longest time. But, the Surface Laptop Go took just a few days, and it is now our default machine for all the writing, editing, and even video calls. The display offers an aspect ratio of 3:2 and 1536x1024 pixels resolution, which is enough for a laptop of this size, in my opinion.

At just 15.6mm, the Surface Laptop Go feels sleek while 1.1-kilogram weight makes it super light than many rivals in its price segment.

The Surface Laptop Go's top panel is built with aluminium while the base uses a polycarbonate composite resign system with glass fibre. The laptop is available only in Platinum colour, which looks elegant. Last year, Microsoft launched the Surface Go in multiple colours in the US, including Ice Blue and Sandstone apart from the Platinum. We can expect the company to introduce newer models sometime later in India.

Despite this size, the laptop comes with one USB-C and USB-A ports. There's also the 3.5mm audio jack which means users can either use their old headphones with the audio jack or plug the new ones using the USB-C port.

The laptop also comes with a full-fledged sized trackpad which worked nicely during our initial time with the laptop. For added security, Microsoft has also integrated fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication on the power button, which is a bonus for consumers.

Stable performance and good enough battery backup

The Surface Laptop Go is powered by 10th Gen Intel i5-1035G1 processor and packs 4GB/8GB/16GB of LPDDR4x RAM. We didn't face any issues on the performance front during our initial time with the Surface Laptop Go, including any heating issues. It worked as a silent machine most of the time without any fan noise, which was impressive.

The laptop runs on Windows 10 Pro version. We haven't tested the Surface Laptop Go for gaming purposes, but we will put the machine to the test in the coming weeks to give our final verdict. Until then, we will reserve our verdict on the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Go quick review

The Surface Laptop Go seems very capable everyday machine and comes with enough features to keep people across different professions satisfied. The pandemic has forced many people to change their work styles and companies to adopt a culture where work from home is the new norm. This gave laptop makers a good push last year to come with interesting offerings in India and Microsoft seems to have started 2021 on a good note.

With the Surface Laptop Go's aggressive pricing, Microsoft seems to get serious about the Indian market. This launch can be taken as a heads-up for rivals like Dell, HP, Asus, and Lenovo which have been launching affordable Windows machines now and then. Microsoft has also hinted that it is launching more Surface devices in the coming months.

Surface Laptop Go supports fast-charging.

We will continue to use the Surface Laptop Go for some more time to answer the most crucial question, whether it is worth your money or not. Till then, stay tuned.
