- A number of Redmi phones will be upgraded to MIUI 12.
- Xiaomi's MIUI 12 will also make way to the Poco M2.
- MIUI 12 is the latest software update from Xiaomi.
All through 2020, Xiaomi has been quite quick with its software updates for its Mi and Redmi branded smartphones. The company has been efficiently updating many of its older phones with new software updates and bringing them up to its latest MIUI 12 operating system.
Yet, till now there were a few phones that had remained untouched by this software upgrade cycle. But a new list leaked on the internet reveals that a number of these Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones will finally be getting the MIUI 12 update in the coming weeks.
The list appears to be of the company's phones in India, as it features devices such as the Poco M2 and Redmi 9 -- devices that are exclusively sold in India. According to this list leaked by PiunikaWeb, over the next few days, devices such as the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 8, will be getting the MIUI 12 update, while the Poco M2 and Redmi 9 will be updated to the version by October 15. The report says the Redmi 8 series will get the MIUI 12 rollout in India by October 22, while the Redmi 7 series will get the update by October 25.
If the report does end up being true, it would be good news for millions of Xiaomi and Redmi phone users in India who will see their phones being upgraded with new functionality ahead of the upcoming festive period.
Earlier, the company had started rolling out the release to Poco M2 Pro users in India. The Poco M2 Pro brings some solid specs to the table. The Poco M2 Pro brings a 6.67-inch 20:9 FHD+ punch-hole display that is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The phone's body also comes with P2i Nano-coating, splash and dust resistant. Under the hood, there's a Snapdragon 720G Octa-core processor paired to up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
The cameras on-board look very much like the ones we've already seen on the Redmi Note 9 Pro. This is because the device gets a quad-camera set-up that not only looks like the Redmi Note 9 Pro's from the outside but is also the same when it comes to the hardware. As such, the phone gets a 48-megapixel main camera on the back -- the same Samsung ISOCELL GM2 seen on the Redmi Note 9 Pro.
