- MTNL is giving prepaid plans priced at Rs 196, Rs 329 and Rs 399 under Rs 500.

In March 2021, the government deferred the merger of state-owned telco Mahanagar Telecom Nagar Limited (MTNL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) citing financial reasons and high debt of MTNL. The Minister of Communication, electronics and information technology Ravi Shankar Prasad noted that "close cooperation and service integration between BSNL and MTNL" has been taken into consideration.
Now, MTNL has extended the availability of promotional plans starting from Rs 196 for 90 days till August 12, 2021. The special tariff vouchers (STV)s are priced at Rs 196, Rs 329, Rs 399, Rs 1298 and Rs 1499.
MTNL prepaid plans priced under Rs 500:
MTNL STV Rs 196: This prepaid plan priced at Rs 196 will offer 1.5GB high-speed data per day, unlimited free calling, 100 SMS per day, and 28 days validity.
MTNL STV Rs 329: This prepaid plan offers 2GB high-speed data per day, unlimited free calling, 100 SMS per day, and 45 days validity. "Enjoy STV196 with free 1.5 GB/day data, unlimited free calls, 100 SMS/day & 28 days validity," said MTNL Mumbai in a notice. The development was first noted by Only Tech.
MTNL STV Rs 399: This prepaid plan priced at Rs 399 from MTNL offers 500MB high-speed data per day, unlimited free calling, 100 SMS per day, and 28 days validity.
MTNL prepaid plans under Rs 1500
MTNL STV Rs 1298: This special tariff voucher priced at 1298 offers 2GB high-speed data per day along with 270 days validity. This plan is data-specific and offers 3G data with no calling benefits and SMS benefits.
MTNL PV1499: This plan offers 2GB of high-speed data per day, unlimited free calling, 100 SMS per day for 365 days validity.
Meanwhile, BSNL has waived off voice calling charges on FTTH plans. It will now offer only combo broadband plans, that give both data as well as calling benefits. BSNL broadband customers could earlier opt for voice-only benefits with their plans but it is no longer an option. The existing broadband customers will continue to have their voice-only plans with efforts from the telco to convert them to combo users as there are no separate charges for voice calls.
BSNL extended its promotional broadband plans starting at Rs 449 till July 2021. It has also introduced Air Fibre Plans with speeds ranging from 30Mbps to 70Mbps. The plans start at Rs 499 and offer 30 Mbps download speed to 3300GB of data.
