Facebook has launched a new feature for the Messenger, that will help curb those dangerously expensive data plans.

Facebook's  new feature will let users turn off the auto download feature on the app. The user will have to manually download the content when on cellular data. However, if the connection switches to WiFi, the app will start auto-downloading content again.

To turn on this new feature on Messenger, the user will have to access the setting manually and toggle the 'Data Saver' option to 'off'. This feature will be of great help in developing markets like India where Facebook is trying to expand its reach.

The update has only been rolled out to Android users as of now and is still in the testing phase. iOS users might soon receive this update after it has successfully been tested on Android.

Reportedly, Facebook is also testing a feature that will suggest topics in a chatbox. Though there is no official confirmation regarding this new feature, certain people around the globe have received an update with this new feature. The feature looks into your friends recent activity on Facebook and accordingly suggests topics within your chat.
