Chinese handset maker OnePlus has decided to exit the "invite only" model for its only smartphone, the One, as it celebrates the first anniversary of the device.
The company said in a press statement that starting April 20, both the Sandstore Black 64GB variant and Silk Whilte 16GB variants will be readily available on Amazon.in.
OnePlus is also offering 50 per cent off on the purchase of a few selected accessories with the purchase of the OnePlus One until April 23.
OnePlus said it believes this is a big step for the company and it will learn from this non-invite system. The company plans to launch its next smartphone, OnePlus 2, in the third quarter of this year, which will again be available for purchase through invites.
"By rigorously testing and improving our logistical structure over the last one year, we are far more confident that our processes have matured enough for us to handle the increased production and after-sales support that comes along with opening up sales," said Carl Pei, co-founder and Head of Global, OnePlus. "It's what we've been working towards, and now we're ready."
According to the press statement, OnePlus has more than 700 employees and has sold over one million OnePlus One handsets worldwide.
