At a press conference in New Delhi, smartphone maker YU has announced the launch of its new smartphone, Yuphoria. This is the second smartphone in the YU portfolio and has been priced aggressively at Rs 6,999.
The first smartphone under the YU brand - Yureka - was launched in December last year.
The YU Yuphoria is expected to pose tough competition to the recently launched Xiaomi Redmi 2 featuring the same processor and 1 GB of RAM.
Recently, Micromax has also launched the Canvas Spark, a 4.7-inch device powered by MediaTek processor, 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB internal storage. The Canvas Spark was launched for Rs 4,999.
The Yuphoria features a 5-inch HD Corning Gorilla Glass 3 display in a metal frame with rounded edges. It packs in a 1.2-Ghz Snapdragon 410 quad core, 64-bit processor and is paired with 2 GB of RAM. It runs on Cyanogen OS 12 based on Android Lollipop out of the box, and has 16 GB of internal storage.
It also features an 8-MP rear camera and a 5-MP front facing one. Being a dual SIM smartphone, other connectivity options on board include LTE, WiFi and Bluetooth.
Yuphoria comes pre-installed with apps such as Truecaller's caller identification, spam detection and blacklisting experience into its Dialer, which gives more control over privacy.
The phone has a 2230-mAh battery, and will be available in gold and silver variants on Amazon.in through flash sale model. Registrations will start on May 12 and the first flash sale will be conducted on May 28.
"We stepped out to do everything that's exciting and new and today's launch is all of that. We are proud to say that with Yuphoria, we are breaking the flagship myth and introducing our first smartphone that has been designed and assembled in India," says Rahul Sharma, Founder, YU.
