Nubia Red Magic 5G launched, brings 144Hz display, Snapdragon 865 and more

The defining factor of the Red Magic 5G is that it comes with a 1144Hz display -- the fastest on a smartphone to date.

Chinese phone maker, Nubia, has added to its Red Magic line-up of smartphones by launching an all-new phone with a monster of a spec sheet. The Red Magic 5G has been announced to bring with itself a number of key features, including a high refresh rate screen and Snapdragon 865 SoC and up to 16GB of RAM.

For now, the smartphone has only be announced in China and has been announced to come with support for 5G basebands. However, its defining feature is that that it packs a 144Hz display -- the fastest installed on any phone till now.

The smartphone has been launched in three colour options, Hacker Black, Mars Red, Cyber Neon, as well as a transparent edition. These colours are, however, not available across all four memory and storage variants of the phone -- 8GB + 128GB, 12GB + 128GB, 12GB + 256GB, and 16GB + 256GB model.

The entry variant has been announced to start retail at CNY 3,799 (approx Rs 40,000) with the top-end variant selling for CNY 4,999 (Approx Rs. 55,000).

Nubia Red Magic 5G: Specifications

The Red Magic 5G comes with a 6.65-inch AMOLED FHD+ display (1080 x 2340 pixels) that can refresh at 144Hz and also promises a 240Hz screen touch reponse rate. The display has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

Under the hood, it is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 865 SoC and a custom Adreno 650 GPU. The chipset has been paired with three LPDDR5 dual-channel RAM -- either 8GB, 12GB, or 16GB. The storage on the device sees Nubia Red Magic 5G get up to 256GB of UFS 3.0 memory with no expandability.

For connectivity, the phone brings with itself a 5G modem, Wi-Fi 6, GPS and there's also a 3.5mm headphone jack. Apart from this, the phone has also been equipped with an in-display fingerprint reader.

For cameras, the phone gets a primary 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor sat next to an 8-megapixel super-wide-angle sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro lens to complete the triple camera set-up. The selfie shooter on the Nubia Red Magic 5G is an 8-megapixel lens with f/2.0 aperture.

The whole package is powered by a 4,500mAh pack with support for 55W air-cooled fast charging. The company claims this can help the phone achieve 56 per cent charge in just 15 minutes.
