Highlights

  • OnePlus 6 and 6T users get the latest OxygenOS update with January security patch.
  • OxygenOS 10.3.8 update is an incremental update.
  • There's no confirmation if OnePlus will get Android 11 update as of now.

OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T smartphones are now receiving the latest OxygenOS update in India that brings the latest security patch. Historically, we know that OnePlus has been spot on with timely software updates. Still, updates with security patch show the company's effort to keep users updated and safe from any security vulnerability. The OnePlus 6 launched in India back in May 2018 while 6T in October 2018. Both the smartphones were updated to Android 10 late last year.

The OxygenOS 10.3.8 update is an incremental update for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T users. It bumps the Android security patch to January 2021 and brings minor upgrades.

"We are starting to push the incremental rollout of OxygenOS 10.3.8 for OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T," the forum post on the company's website said.

As always, the new incremental update is a staged rollout which means it will be rolled out to limited users initially and gradually be pushed to a broader user base.

To refresh, the OnePlus 6 was launched running Android 8.1 in 2018 while the OnePlus 6T launched with Android 9 later that year.

OnePlus, earlier this year, announced plans for Android 11 based OxygenOS 11 update for its smartphones. The company launched the OnePlus 8T last year running OxygenOS 11 based on Android 11. It also pushed the new updates for the OnePlus 8 series. Next in line is the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T, which are likely to soon get OxygenOS 11 Open Beta. However, the company hasn't confirmed the Android 11 based update for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T users as of now. The company says it will post details on the update for these two models later.
