- OnePlus is all set to launch two new phones on April 14
- The design of the two phones has been detailed ahead of launch
- The OnePlus 8 Pro camera sample has also been revealed
We are days away from the launch of the OnePlus 8 series of phones, with the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro all set to be unveiled at a virtual launch event on April 14. Ahead of the series' launch, the company is leaving no stone unturned in its attempts to ramp up interest about the upcoming flagship phones.
The latest has seen the company's CEO, Pete Lau, take to Twitter and then the company's forums to talk about the two phones in detail. In separate posts on the platforms, Lau explained the design philosophy of the upcoming phones, and also showed off the photography prowess of the OnePlus 8 Pro.
Ahead of the launch, the two posts have given us a far greater insight into what we can expect from the phones.
OnePlus 8 series: Design revealed
The design of the OnePlus 8 series of phones has been all but revealed through the forum post written by Lau. In the post, he outlines not just the design philosophy of the new phones but also describes in detail the design itself.
Using sketches and a new promo video that shows off the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro in a new colour, Lau explains that "Good design is just as important as robust hardware or fast and smooth software".
He further goes on to reveal that the phones will use "fifth-generation matte frosted glass" on the rear panel for a more refined gradient look, which will not only help them retain the smooth finish that has become an iconic feature of OnePlus series phones but also make them the best designed OnePlus phones to date.
The phones are also being claimed to feature 3D curved glass and a "thinner profile, lighter weight, so that the phone can sit ergonomically and comfortably in the palm" of the user's hand, bringing a truly "burdenless" experience.
Lau has also revealed a new colour variant for the phone, which he claims was decided on after experimenting with 100 color and texture combinations. With the new Glacial Green color, the company has attempted to invoke "fresh, environmentally friendly, natural, and youthful feelings."
OnePlus 8 Pro camera samples teased
Lau also took to Twitter later in the day to show off the camera samples of the upcoming phone. The samples are the first ones shared by the company and features stills that appear to have been shot using the ultrawide camera in a city at night.
There are four shots in total, with the results of the phone's Nightscape mode also shown off. The shots show off a city in the evening with clear skies above it. There are plenty of buildings and lights to help the frame come to life.

From what we can see, the phone appears to have done a good job capturing the picture with good amount of detail and impressive colours. While we comment on how real they are without actually having seen the frame with our eyes, but we can, however, say that OnePlus 8 Pro's ultra-wide lens has done a decent job in bringing the picture alive with its abilities.
For now, there is no official confirmation on the camera specs, but leaks in the past have claimed the OnePlus 8 Pro could sport a quad-camera setup comprised of a 48-megapixel wide-angle lens, another 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens and a 5-megapixel unit.
More on this, however, should be revealed in the coming days as we get closer to the April 14 launch of the device.
