- The OnePlus 8 Pro has been leaked in a set of new photos.
- Leaks confirm a 64-megapixel camera as part of the triple cameras on the Pro.
- The OnePlus 8 Pro will come with a Snapdragon 865 chipset.
We have been talking about the OnePlus 8 series phones since the past few months and while this year's star attractions are the OnePlus 8 Lite and the regular OnePlus 8, the OnePlus 8 Pro is drawing its fair share of attention before it breaks cover in the next two months. Most of the leaks have so far suggested top-end specifications for a 2020 flagship but a design similar to the outgoing OnePlus 7T Pro. However, the phone has finally been spotted in flesh for the first time - thanks to a tipster on Snapchat.
Over the last weekend, a Snapchat user going by the name of LAO OP has been revealing photos of the alleged OnePlus 8 Pro on his/her account. There have been three photos related to the phone so far and they reveal three different things about the phone. The design is mostly similar to the OnePlus 7T Pro although a couple of changes have been made keeping in mind performance improvements.
The first photo shows the phone wrapped in the plastic, with its red packaging box seen in the background. The phone looks similar to the OnePlus 7T Pro and it has the same triple camera system with an LED flash below it. However, there appear to be two more sensors placed alongside the camera. The plastic cover doesn't reveal much about the phone though.
However, the second photo shows the phone without the plastic covering. It also reveals the phone's colour, which is a new purple variant. There appears to be some kind of a gradient that's similar to ones we have seen on OnePlus phones so far. The finish is glossy and not OnePlus' stunning frosted glass finish.
The third photo is essentially a screenshot of the specifications page inside Oxygen OS and it reveals a lot of the specifications. First and foremost is the obvious presence of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset that's going to be present on a lot more flagship phones this year. The Pro will also get 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, although it's not known whether there will be any other variant with different RAM and storage options.
The OnePlus 8 Pro is also confirmed to get the new 6.65-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Surprisingly, OnePlus lists the main camera system as a triple camera unit despite the presence of more than three sensors. The main camera will have a 64-megapixel sensor, which is probably the Sony IMX686 sensor that will be present in a few premium flagship phones. This camera is going to be accompanied by another 20-megapixel and 12-megapixel cameras. A render of the phone is shown with a small punch-hole cutout for the front camera.
The leaks are difficult to dismiss as fakes or fan-created given the levels of information all these photos reveal. However, the OnePlus 8 series is expected to come out by early April and we are likely to see more prototypes in the wild being tested.
