OnePlus's former co-founder, Carl Pei, who left the company only a few months ago, is now all set to start his new venture. After leaving OnePlus in October, Pei had announced plans of about a new startup in December. At the time he had revealed that the startup had already raised $7 million, however, Pei stopped short of disclosing any more information about it. But it appears he is now ready to reveal it all, as he will be disclosing details about his venture next week.
In fact, he has even announced that the brand will be unveiled next week on January 27, adding to the information we already knew about this new venture of his dealing with audio products. Ahead of the launch, Pei has also announced a giveaway of ten MacBook Air M1. This giveaway will be open to everyone across the globe and winners will be selected on January 31. The giveaway will take place on Twitter and will be open for all with winners being selected on January 31.
MacBook Air M1 giveaway
The product at the heart of the giveaway is the 13-inch MacBook Air which uses the new M1 chipset from the Apple Silicon family of SoCs. The device retails at a starting price of Rs 92,900 in India. Much like the other chips for Apple's phones and watches, the M1 uses the company's in-house ARM-based processing cores built using the latest 5nm fabrication process. Apple claims the M1 chip uses up to 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU to achieve 11 trillion operations.
What we know about Carl Pei's new venture
Talking about Carl Pei's new venture, there is little we know about it at the moment. The only real hint about it we've had is the one he gave the world a short while ago when he said the new product he aims to launch will be "so much more" than just a headphone.
This was taken by many as a hint that Pei's new brand might be deal with audio products. However, the speculation is that the company may launch more than just audio products and may be involved in a lot more. We also know that the new venture by Carl Pei will be headquartered in London.
To remind our readers, this is Pei's second attempt at starting a company. As we know, his first was OnePlus which he co-founded with Pete Lau in 2013. Under OnePlus, Pei was instrumental in the launch of many of the company's premium segment products and had only last year played a key part in the launch of the company's mid-range OnePlus Nord smartphone.
For now, we know little about what Pei has in store for us with his new venture, but if it's in any way close to what he came up with the OnePlus Nord, we can expect it to be a grand success.
