- OnePlus has revealed the name of its upcoming phone
- The smartphone will be an affordable offering below the $500 mark
- OnePlus Nord will be available for pre-booking starting tomorrow
OnePlus has finally released the first part of its documentary series "New Begginings" detailing the journey of creating its new affordable smartphone, which we now officially know will be called OnePlus Nord. Although leaked a number of times before, the name of the phone has for the first time been confirmed by the company through this video that was released by OnePlus via its @OnePlusLiteZthings handle on Instagram.
The video details part of the journey of the creation of the phone, which according to the company took it only six months. OnePlus claims that this is the fastest a phone has gone from being conceptulised to becoming market reality. It also claims in the video that this is significantly faster than what it usually takes to create a new phone from the ground-up.
Throughout the video, we regularly see OnePlus' co-founders walk us through the journey of the creation of the OnePlus Nord, which has now also been confirmed by its CEO, Pete Lau, to be a device that'll be priced below the $500 mark.
Apart from this, the first part of the "New Beginnings" video also reveals some key details about the design of the upcoming OnePlus Nord. In the video, we hear the project team explain that the upcoming phone will come with a very Scandanavian identity which is "clean, calm, modern and minimalistic" design. The video also shows what appears to be a prototype of the phone in one of the scenes. The prototype of the device appears to carry a dual punch-hole on the front -- something we've also seen in leaked renders before.
Earlier, a report by Android Central had also talked about the phone coming with a dual selfie camera setup. The report claimed that the OnePlus Nord will get a 32-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel secondary lens. Additionally, the report also revealed that the camera setup will be housed inside a punch-hole at the top-left corner of the display.
Apart from this, the OnePlus Nord was teased by the company on Amazon shortly before the release of the video. The teaser shows that the upcoming affordable OnePlus device will be made for limited pre-order as soon as tomorrow. However, with limited being the operative word here, OnePlus is only extending 100 units of the Nord for pre-order at 2pm IST tomorrow. This device will be made available on Amazon India and OnePlus.in.
As for other details about the OnePlus Nord, we expect the company to slowly start sharing more details in the coming days. However, for now, leaks suggest the display on the phone could be an AMOLED panel with a screen size of 6.4-6.5 inches running at a refresh rate of 90 Hz. Under the hood, the phone is expected to be made available two variants, with either 8GB or 12 GB of RAM and storage of 128GB or 256 GB. Keeping the lights on could be a 4000 mAh rechargeable battery with support for fast 30-watt recharge via the USB Type-C port.
