- OnePlus has revealed its plans of a more affordable smartphone.
- The new device will be launched sometime next month.
- The phone could be called the OnePlus Z or OnePlus Z Lite or OnePlus Nord.
It's no longer a secret that OnePlus is working on a new mid-range, more affordable smartphone, and with constant leaks and teasers populating the web, it's also no surprise that there's quite a lot of interest in the device ahead of its rumoured July 10 India launch.
The OnePlus Nord (or will it be OnePlus Z or OnePlus Z Lite?) is garnering a lot of attention on social media platforms at the moment, with the company's @OnePlusLiteZThing Instagram account already amassing over 124 thousand followers within days of going live. A private account by nature, the Insta handle currently has 12 posts with thousands of likes and comments on them already.
Interestingly, OnePlus is being slightly selective in its approach towards accepting followers for this account, with many users even tweeting to OnePlus, and its founders, to accept their follow requests on the Instagram account. At this point, if you are wondering why there's such an interest to follow this account, we'd like to inform you that the @OnePlusLiteZThing handle is being used by the company to share exclusive information, images and teasers of the upcoming affordable phone.
OnePlus is pegging this handle as the primary source for all inside news and teasers for the device, and has even gone so far in its attempts to do so, that even trolled a few well-known leaksters in jest by claiming it "can do leaks a little better" than them. And if you're still not convinced, the company has also revealed that it will be releasing a documentary exclusively via this Instagram handle starting June 30. OnePlus has already uploaded a short teaser of the documentary on the account, and from the looks of it, it appears to be one that's meant to take OnePlus' fans through the journey of the creation of the upcoming affordable smartphone.
The documentary, that will be published in four parts, will bring behind-the-scenes footage, and show team interviews to help fans understand just how the team at OnePlus managed to finish the development of the new phone in a matter of months.
OnePlus Nord aka OnePlus Z: Expected specifications
For now, there is little that we officially know about the OnePlus Nord. However, the phone appeared recently on Geekbech, which gave us a good idea about the hardware powering the upcoming affordable OnePlus phone.
As per the listing, the display on the phone is tipped to be AMOLED in nature, with a screen size of 6.4-6.5 inches running at a refresh rate of 90 Hz. Under the hood, the phone is expected to be made available in two variants, with either 8GB or 12 GB of RAM and storage of 128GB or 256 GB.
Keeping the lights on could be a 4000 mAh rechargeable battery with support for fast 30-watt recharge via the USB Type-C port. For cameras, the phone could get a 48-megapixel primary sensor, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2-megapixel macro lens with a fourth depth-sensing lens or colour filter lens.
