- There will reportedly be three smartphones under the series.
- Reno 5 Pro+ will be the most advanced smartphone in the series.
Oppo Reno 5 series is set to launch on December 10. After around a month of leaks and rumours, the next-generation Reno series smartphones will arrive later this month, Oppo announced in a video teaser released on Weibo in China. The Reno 5 series will have three smartphones under it initially, including the Reno 5, Reno 5 Pro, and Reno 5 Pro+. The first two models are said to be incremental upgrades over their prequels, while the Reno 5 Pro+ will emerge as a premium device that will sit a position lower than that of the Find X3 when it launches next year.
In the video teaser, Oppo said the "Diamond Glow series will debut", by which the company means the Reno 5 series. The word 'glow' has been associated with the Reno series since the last-generation smartphones in the series. Oppo has not said anything extra, such as what these phones will come with or what technologies there will be to set them apart. However, the rumour mill is abuzz with several leaks that point at some interesting changes to the Reno 5, Reno 5 Pro, and Reno 5 Pro+ smartphones.
Oppo Reno 5, Reno 5 Pro, Reno 5 Pro+ Specifications
Reportedly, the Reno 5 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor, the Reno 5 Pro will be run by a MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ chipset, and, finally, the Reno 5 Pro+ smartphone will sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor that also powers the Find X2 series smartphones. This would mean that the Reno 5 Pro+ will be similar to the current Find X series in terms of performance. The next-generation of Find X smartphones are already confirmed to be powered by the newly launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor will also catapult the Reno series to the penultimate flagship category because since the Snapdragon 888 has not actually come out in the market, making the processor still the fastest one for Android phones. I am not sure what Oppo wants to achieve here because its Find X series is pretty impressive and has gathered rave reviews for its overall value. The company is already said to be killing the Ace series that it tore away from the Reno series some months earlier. As such, the position of the Reno series becomes a little too complicated to comprehend. Oppo will be able to explain this at the launch event for the Reno 5 series on December 10.
Oppo Find X3 Launch
In other news, Oppo has confirmed one too many things for the Find X3 series smartphones. The most important one is that it is launching in the first quarter of 2021. The second one is that the Find X3 and Find X3 Pro smartphones will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, making it compete with OnePlus 9 and Xiaomi Mi 11 flagships as and when they come out.
The Oppo Find X3 Pro will also be the pinnacle in the industry to come with the 10-bit colour system across its hardware components to make sure the colours stay the same way the entire exchange process between the camera, storage, and display components. There will also be a dual-camera system that will use Sony's next IMX700 series sensor to provide better quality over last generation's cameras.
