- Oppo will launch the Reno 5 Pro+ in China on December 24.
- The Reno 5 Pro+ will come with a 50MP custom Sony sensor.
- The smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC.
Oppo Reno 5 Pro+ is coming later this week in China. The top-tier model in the Reno 5 series that skipped the launch alongside the Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro is scheduled to launch on December 24. With the launch around the corner, Oppo has begun teasing specifications for the Reno 5 Pro+. The specifications of the smartphone have been ousted in the rumour mill so far only but this is the first time Oppo is announcing what its upcoming device will come with. The Oppo Reno 5 Pro+ will sport a custom 50MP Sony camera on the back accompanied by three more sensors.
The fresh information comes courtesy Oppo's teaser that was shared on Weibo. The Reno 5 Pro+ will feature a Sony IMX766 sensor with a resolution of 50 megapixels. This is a custom made sensor that Oppo and Sony have developed only for the Reno 5 Pro+. This means that Sony will not provide this sensor to any other smartphone company. The details of this sensor, such as the aperture, focal length, and lens details are not clear right now, which is why we are going to have to leave this chunk of information as-is.
Oppo Reno 5 Pro+ Specifications
Oppo's teaser also confirms that the Reno 5 Pro+ will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor under the hood while the battery on the inside will support 65W fast charging. We have pretty much known these two things about the Reno 5 Pro+, thanks to several leaks and rumours. Even the 50MP part about the Reno 5 Pro+ cameras is not new. A TENAA listing for the Reno 5 Pro+ previously hinted at a 50MP camera on the back. This has now turned out true.
Besides, the listing suggested there will be a 16MP super wide-angle camera, a 13MP telephoto camera, and a 2MP macro camera on the Reno 5 Pro+. For selfies, there is going to be a 32MP camera on the Reno 5 Pro+. Apart from camera details, there are several other specifications that are known to us through the rumour mill. There is going to be a 6.55-inch AMOLED display on the Reno 5 Pro+ with a punch-hole design and curved edges. This display will integrate a fingerprint sensor while supporting 90Hz refresh rate. It will have 12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard memory.
Moreover, the Oppo Reno 5 Pro+ will be backed by a 4500mAh battery. Oppo has confirmed 65W fast charging support, so there is that. But it is no improvement over the last generation Reno-series phones. The Oppo Reno 4 Pro has the same 65W fast charging. Better yet, Realme has essentially democratised this feature by launching it on a Rs 13,999 phone called Narzo 20 Pro. I am not sure how lucrative the 65W fast charging is going to be at this point.
Oppo is likely to drop more teasers in the build-up to the launch of the Reno 5 Pro+ but despite that, the full details will come out on December 24. The Oppo Reno 5 Pro+ will sell in China initially and the company has not said anything on whether it is planning to bring the phone outside of mainland China. The Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro, although, are speculated to arrive in global markets soon.
