- Oppo is launching its first smart TV on October 19.
- The Oppo TV is expected to come with a selfie camera on top.
- It will launch in China initially but might come to India later.
Oppo TV is finally arriving on October 19. The first smart television from the Chinese tech giant will be officially out later this month, however, initially in its home market. The company detailed out its plans to enter the home entertainment market with its first TV much earlier, but it never shared a concrete timeline. Some pieces of evidence spotted previously did point at the Oppo TV, but all that speculation finally ends with the company's announcement.
Oppo has announced it will hold an event in Shanghai to unveil its first television and it seems like the company want to go back to having physical events. After the coronavirus pandemic hit the tech world, the launch events found themselves the virtual venue. But Oppo is planning a return to physical venues with its television, hinting at something big to expect.
The teaser shared by Oppo does not tell us anything apart from whatever you can infer from the tagline "One More Step". But thanks to the listings on China's 3C certification website, we know there will at least be two models: one with a 55-inch size panel and another one with a 65-inch panel. The first one has a model number A55UB00 and the second one is codenamed A65UB00.
Some people keeping a track on Oppo's development are suggesting the teaser hints at a selfie camera on the television, maybe for video calls on big screens, which, by the way, seems implausible. But this is not the first time when a company is making this weird attempt. Honor previously launched its smart television with an inbuilt camera on top of it. Although it was announced for India back in 2019 with a promised release date sometime in early 2020, it never went on sale.
We are not sure if this will be a thing but you can expect some standard features, such as 4K HDR on the display, MEMC technology for motion smoothing, even 120Hz refresh rate on the panel, Dolby Audio maybe for speakers, and Android TV to support a gamut of apps available in China for streaming. Oppo might launch its first smart television outside of China, including markets like India where its offshoot Realme recently unveiled the premium 55-inch SLED 4K TV.
