Oppo Watch was launched back in March and only for the Chinese market. For the past few weeks, rumours have been rife that Oppo Watch is being prepared for global markets. The smartwatch model sold in China has a rather dumbed-down version of its ColorOS software but the one that is said to launch in international markets, including India, could run on Google's Wear OS software. This increases the competition that Oppo Watch would have to offer in its segment. The Oppo Watch is said to launch globally on July 31.
According to a report by Engadget, which claims to have seen a GIF shared as promotional material for Oppo Watch, it looks "a lot like" the one being sold in China. The Oppo Watch design is heavily inspired by that of Apple Watch, so there is a less chance of the global version to be any different from the Apple Watch look-wise. But the biggest takeaway is that the Oppo Watch will run on Wear OS, bringing the power of Google's Android ecosystem and with it, a horde of apps and functionalities, which would otherwise have been absent on the ColorOS version.
If the global variant for the Oppo Watch is anything like the Chinese one, it will also have a curved AMOLED display in two sizes for two variants - the 41mm model has a 1.6-inch display while the 46mm comes with a 1.91-inch screen. The former has a resolution of 320x360 pixels while the latter bumps it up to 402x476 pixels. The smartwatch has LTE connectivity via the eSIM facility, which should be compatible with most carriers globally. There is also an ECG sensor, a heart-rate monitor, and pedometer among other fitness-related tools on the Oppo Watch. The smartwatch has water resistance up to 3 ATM on the base model and 5 ATM on the bigger model. There is a 300mAh battery on both models, in addition to 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. The Oppo Watch is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2500 processor.
The launch of Oppo Watch is expected to be on the side-lines of the Reno 4 Pro, which is confirmed to debut in India on July 31. The company has already revealed some of the key specifications for the Reno 4 Pro coming to India. They include a curved 90Hz display and the Snapdragon 720G processor, which is similar to the China variant of the Reno 4 Pro. It will come preloaded with the ColorOS 7.1 software and will have India-focused features.
