Poco has been quite chirpy lately on its social media channels, revealing its and bits about the Poco X2 - its first smartphone in nearly a year's time. The X2 is a big deal for the company as it marks Poco's return to the market after a long time. And all the while it was away, the brand kept observing the market closely and now has a phone in its pipeline that could be an aggressive proposition in the sub-Rs 20,000 market.
Although the company is launching the Poco X2 on February 4, Poco's social media channels have started revealing a few details about the phone. No, you still don't get to see how the phone looks on the whole but Poco is speaking about the stuff that matters the most to the followers of Poco - specifications. Given that the website has hinted at few of the things, here's a breakdown of everything that's out in the public as of now.
Poco X2: What we know about it so far
120Hz refresh rate display now more accessible
Xiaomi already has a phone on the shelves with a 120Hz display and Poco seems to be getting the same for its first phone in 2020. The upcoming Poco X2 will most possibly get the 120Hz refresh rate display from the Redmi K30 4G - the phone on which this one is based on. Similar to the Redmi K30, the display will stick to an LCD panel and chances are that the phone might even retain a small dot drop notch similar to the ones found on the Redmi Note devices. The LCD screen also means you might see thick bezels at the bottom.
Flagship-grade camera also coming to this one
When the Poco F1 launched, it used the best camera sensor from Sony available at the time to manufacturers. Poco seems to continue the tradition this year too by employing the Sony IMX686 sensor. This sensor will find its way onto most premium Android phones this year and Poco might be the first one to bring it to our market.
However, the Poco X2 might only have a dual-camera setup instead of a quad-camera setup like the Redmi K30. The main camera will comprise of the 64-megapixel Sony sensor and the second camera could most possibly be a wide-angle camera that can also take macro photos as well as portrait mode photos. The teaser image also reveals a fingerprint sensor sitting under the dual camera setup.
Will use a premium Qualcomm chipset
Leaks have so far revealed that the Poco X2 will use the same Snapdragon 730G chipset as the Redmi K30 4G. This is the same chip used in the Realme X2 and is good enough for gaming as well as everyday performance. Poco might couple this chipset with at least 6GB RAM as well as 128GB storage for the base variant. Poco has also demonstrated the use of a liquid cooling system on the X2 similar to the F1.
Fast charging could be standard
The Poco X2 is teased to have a big battery and according to the leaks, the phone will get a 4500mAh battery along with support for fast charging. Since the Poco X2 will try to outdo the Realme X2, Poco could offer a 27W fast charger in the box as standard to get the battery up and running quickly.
Will it look like the Redmi K30 4G?
Probably not. The teasers are hinting at a design that might be similar to the Poco F1. In fact, we won't be surprised if the Poco X2 will look like the Poco F1, save for a few minute changes. The phone is already confirmed to retain the 3.5mm headphone jack as well as the USB-C port. The phone may lose the wide notch of the F1 and go for a smaller dot drop notch, which might omit the IR sensor used of face unlock. Poco might even use the same plastic body as the F1 to keep the costs low, although the Kevlar panel might make it to the X2 in its premium variants.
Will it replace the Poco F1?
Poco will be looking to have the strongest specifications sheet in the sub-Rs 20,000 segment with the Poco X2. The phone seems to be a direct rival to the Realme X2 and Poco will try to undercut Realme in a massive way. Hence, with the cost savings in certain areas, Poco might sell the X2 at the same price as the Poco F1, i.e. starting at Rs 14,999.
